Still I Rise is an international NGO with a humanitarian mission to provide protection and quality education to refugee and underprivileged youth. They are expanding by opening the latest International School in Mumbai and offering an International Teacher Placement Programme in Still I Rise International School of Nairobi, Kenya. Engaged in an ambitious educational project, the organization aims to offer high-quality schooling experiences to disadvantaged children, providing opportunities usually reserved for the privileged. The goal is to empower students to become leaders dedicated to positive change in their communities and beyond.

We are currently seeking an innovative, open-minded, and determined Philosophy teacher to join our team. You will inspire young students aged 10-13 in small, focused classes, following a robust curriculum within a recognized educational framework. Utilizing inquiry-based learning, you will empower students to take charge of their own educational journey.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Plan, deliver, and facilitate dynamic, student-centered Philosophy lessons for diverse groups of 10-13-year-old students with varying literacy levels due to educational disparities. Create opportunities for real-world applications of concepts through project-based learning using available resources.
  • Assess and monitor students' progress, identifying individual learning needs and providing additional support to students below grade level.
  • Provide trauma-informed pastoral care to students, handle urgent situations professionally, in line with disciplinary and safeguarding policies.
  • Conduct regular assessments, record and report grades, and performance.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development activities.
  • Enhance school participation through community engagement, competitions, and extracurricular programs.
  • Contribute to the development and leadership of extracurricular activities under the guidance of the Education Officer.

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA

  • Demonstrate the organization's values as a role model to students, showcasing ambition, care, transparency, and open-mindedness.
  • Excellent proficiency in written and spoken English
  • Valid teaching certificates;
  • Completed background checks;
  • Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Education, or relevant fields;
  • Minimum of two years' teaching experience;
  • Proficient in ICT skills;
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills;
  • Mentoring abilities;
  • Resilience in challenging environments;
  • Competency in modern inquiry-based teaching methods
  • Team player with a determined mindset

DESIRABLE CRITERIA

  • Experience teaching early literacy levels;
  • Previous work in International Schools;
  • Experience with vulnerable populations
