Expeditors International of Washington, Inc. is seeking an experienced attorney specializing in international labor and employment law and commercial contracts. The position will be located at Expeditors branch office in India.

Job Description:


The Commercial Contracts Attorney will join a world-class legal department and devote time to a wide variety of matters, including employment matters, litigation, customer contracts and other commercial matters.


Primary responsibilities include:
Labor and Employment (Asia Pacific Region)

  • Supporting and advising business teams, including executives, managers, employee relations, information services, and operations regarding compliance with existing and forthcoming labor and employment laws and regulations within the Asia Pacific region.
  • Advising on issues such as discipline, noncompetition, redundancies, leave, disability, contingent workers, equity, contractor management, occupational health and safety, antidiscrimination, wage and hour, and union/labor relations
  • Drafting service provider, commission, noncompete, employment, and settlement agreements
  • Conducting internal investigations
  • Managing litigation, outside counsel, and budgets
Commercial Contracts (All Regions)

  • Drafting, reviewing and negotiating complex commercial service contracts and other commercial documents, service agreements, confidentiality agreements, and privacyrelated documents.
  • Provide routine support on bankruptcy matters, secured credit issues, and corporate entity management.
  • Performing project management work for legal projects
  • Formulating efficient resolution strategies to meet business objectives
  • Providing effective crossfunctional support inside and outside of the legal department
  • Assisting in developing and implementing departmental goals and initiatives

Travel:
Expected 5% to 15%; Valid passport/authorized to travel internationally

Qualifications:

  • Juris Doctorate, Bachelor of Laws, or equivalent degree in Laws
  • Licensed/authorized to practice law in jurisdiction in the US or in any jurisdiction within the APAC, Europe and MAIR regions, in good standing
  • At least 5 years of experience in a top law firm preferred
  • Inhouse experience working in the law department of a Fortune 500 company highly desirable, but not required
  • Strong knowledge of, and practical experience advising on labor and employment laws and regulations
  • Practical experience working with trade unions preferred
  • Strong experience in commercial law.
  • Contract drafting and negotiation experience.
  • The ability to identify, analyze, assess, and communicate legal risks to enable internal clients to make quality, riskadjusted business decisions.
  • Experience in logistics, transport and related sectors preferred
  • Strong analytical, interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills with high level of attention to detail and accuracy
  • Excellent business judgment and ability to work independently
  • Fluent oral and written English required. Fluency in additional languages an asset
