Lead the Platform Safety charter at BharatPe for our merchant business and will be responsible for building a comprehensive framework to ensure that customers, platform, regulators and business partners are safe and secure from fraudulent activities. You will be the single point of contact from the product team for Risk, AML and Compliance teams at BharatPe.

End of the day, we need to create an environment where everyone can trust that their data and money is secure while using our services.

BharatPe has a huge active merchants base using our various services like QR, BharatSwipe, BharatPe Speaker, and more. Moreover, with in-principle approval from RBI for doing Online Payments Business, we are building on our roots in the offline space and adding products in the online space as well.

The entire payments business is a high volume business and is highly regulated. For us to build long term sustainable business, it is important that we have high quality merchants and "good" TPV.

This role will involve active work on following aspects:

● Work with risk and business teams to arrive at balanced policies and procedures to identify potential risks for different products (QR, BharatSwipe etc.) and for different onboarding channels (digital, sales team, inside sales etc.)

● Understanding of regulatory KYC and onboarding requirements for offline and online payments business, and then working with internal teams and external partners to enhance and optimize KYC platform

○ Example 1: as per draft guidelines, BharatPe will have to do Contact Point Verification (CPV) for all offline merchants. This requires building internal systems and external integrations

○ Example 2: KYC funnel rate improvement may require working on machine learning model with the Data Science team to improve name matching success rate

● We have been building an in-house real time transaction monitoring system called Sherloc. You will work with risk, fraud management, business, data science and other teams to enhance capability of the platform while managing experience of impacted merchants and making it easy for genuine merchants to prove their genuineness

○ Example : looking at fraud data, you may want to strengthen rules around dormant merchants

● There are regulatory requirements around Anti Money Laundering (AML). You will be working with the AML team to build / enhance our systems to meet those requirements

● Actively thinking of other measures to increase safety of the platform like limiting the number of devices per user, adding a cool off period on changing settlement accounts by the merchants etc.

You will have to bring in your product thinking to build effective solutions and manage experience for our merchants while increasing safety of our platform.

You will report to the Lead of Payment Platform and will be working closely with every department to ensure our merchant app not only fulfills customer needs but also drives our business growth in a sustainable way.

Responsibilities will include

Functional Expertise

1. Basic understanding of regulatory guidelines around merchant business and payments business. You are not required to be an expert on guidelines, but a working knowledge to have intelligent brainstorming with risk, compliance and AML teams is needed

2. Understanding of players who are in this space will be useful. Ex. knowing players who provide CPV services, NSDL API / GST API / KYC services, video KYC services, consolidated lists for merchant screening etc.

3. Experience of working on anomaly detection models, velocity check models, transaction monitoring, fraud risk management models etc. will be required. Machine learning knowledge and hands-on experience of developing such models will be a big plus

4. Understanding of ways to safeguard platform against misuse

5. Define strategy and roadmap for success of Platform Safety in line with the regulatory guidelines and company vision and objectives

6. Execute the roadmap with internal stakeholders (like engineering ,business, risk, compliance etc.) and external stakeholders (like service providers, regulator and partners - banks, NBFCs or other partners)

7. Strive to achieve balance between risk management, business growth and customer experience 8. Has exceptional written and verbal skills 9. Is extremely data driven , and hands-on with tools (ex. metabase) and language (ex. SQL)

1. Able to synthesize a range of inputs from different functions and take a balanced approach to the problem with a customer first approach

2. Conduct market and competitive analysis to identify areas for improvement

3. Identifies and solves problems at the functional level while influencing beyond own area of control

4. Be assertive with the roadmap creation. Have strong conviction on the roadmap, and try and get it First Time Right in execution

5. Balance expectations of an immediate solve for risk with what is right for the merchant 6. Utilize data-driven decision-making to assess product performance and drive improvements based on key metrics

Interaction:

1. Independently manages complex stakeholder relationships with little to no support from manager; Presents activities to senior management of the organization with some support from the manager

2. Confirmed ability to work cross functionally to drive the implementation of new features

3. Builds exceptional relationships with PMs & Engg counterparts of all businesses; Without high level of empathy, it's impossible to build great products which are adopted across the org

4. Has ability to drive consensus and if not get folks to disagree & commit; Awareness and detailed understanding of overall business and industry context

5. Act as a mentor for APM/Product Managers

Qualification & Experience

● BE/B.Tech or equivalent Degree. MBA is good to have

● 4-7 Yrs of experience

● At least 2 years of experience in product management at a fintech

● Prior experience of working on a similar charter for at least 2 years is needed

● Experience of working at one of the service providers in this space will be a big plus and is good to have

Skills & know-how

● Excellent organization skills, ability to lead multiple projects and handle contending priorities, prioritize workload effectively, and thrive in a dynamic and complex environment

● Technically minded and basic understanding on Agile development, web & app technologies

● Product Management experience desired, ideally in Fintech space

● Past success delivering high quality products in a complex environment

● Deep understanding of financial systems, lending processes, and payment platforms is preferred
