About the Team:

We are the FIS Core banking team, and we build Banking platforms which are used by hundreds of community and regional banks. We are recognized as an industry leader for providing a Banking Solution as a SaaS offering. Our modern banking solution provides a rich set of business capabilities for community banks to support their retail and commercial customers.

About the role:

We are looking for a Director of Software Development to help us drive transformation for our existing technology and continue to build the banking solution for the future. This is a true builder role, inventing solutions that meet our customer needs in a new space. We are looking for someone with a development background in distributed technologies who has built large enterprise grade solutions. Building and maintaining scalable systems is your specialty, and you aren't afraid of making changes to make progress. Whether it's driving architecture, organizational changes, or deconstructing a complex process to find a straightforward solution – you're a dedicated problem solver. What you will be doing:

  • Leadership: Build and cultivate a high-performing engineering team with a passion for cloud-native principles, microservices architecture, and continuous delivery. Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and ownership.
  • Technology Vision: Define the platform's technical roadmap and architecture, evangelizing best practices and aligning with business objectives. Stay ahead of industry trends and ensure our platform utilizes the latest advancements in cloud-native technologies.
  • Delivery Excellence:
    • As a hands-on Manager, work closely with product management and your team to define the roadmap and manage delivery. Drive high-quality code, excellent performance, and seamless scalability.
    • Adheres to the departmental application development and client delivery process standards.
    • Manages full software development lifecycle including testing, implementation, and auditing.
  • Operational Excellence: Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) for system health, performance, and security. Lead efforts to prevent outages and ensure the platform's continuous availability.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with product, design, and other cross-functional teams to translate business requirements into technical solutions. Ensure clear communication and alignment throughout the development process.
  • Talent:
  • Attract and retain top engineering talent. Foster a culture of learning and development, providing opportunities for growth and mentorship within the team.
  • Forecasts resource needs based on an analysis of both portfolio and projected client spend.

What you bring:

  • 15+ years of industry experience of increasing responsibility running engineering teams.
  • Deep understanding of web technologies, microservices architecture, and containerization technologies
  • Product development in Agile methodology (SAFe/Value Stream Model)
  • Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire teams to achieve ambitious goals.
  • Experience leading projects from architectural design to production, while setting and maintaining high standards of technical excellence across your team
  • Technology skills in Java/.Net
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, and a history of working effectively with your team and cross-functional stakeholders.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or directly relevant industry experience
  • Master's degree in computer science or directly relevant industry experience is added advantage.
  • Experience in FinTech, payments, or banking systems.
  • Strong technical credentials, with at least 12 years of technical engineering leadership, with 5+ years of experience in large scale distributed system development including hands on operational experience.
  • Proven experience with full development life cycle for large-scale software products including extensive experience with service-oriented architectures, design patterns and web services.
