We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Opensource Database Subject Matter Expert (SME) to join our team as a Lead. As an Opensource Database SME Lead, you will be responsible for leading the implementation, operation, monitoring, improvements, backup, and recovery of our Opensource database platforms. The ideal candidate should have extensive knowledge of Opensource databases such as MariaDB, MongoDB, Cassandra, Redis, PostgreSQL, strong operational experience, and a proven track record of successful platform management.

Responsibilities:

Leadership and Team Management:


• Lead a team of Opensource Database SMEs, providing guidance, support, and mentorship to ensure high performance and professional development.


• Set clear objectives, expectations, and performance goals for the team.


• Foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement within the team. Implementation and Deployment:


• Design, plan, and oversee the implementation of Opensource database solutions based on industry best practices and business requirements.


• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration of Opensource databases with existing infrastructure and applications.


• Provide technical expertise and guidance to the team during the implementation process.

Operational Management:


• Ensure the smooth operation of Opensource database platforms, monitoring their health, performance, and availability.


• Proactively identify and address any issues or bottlenecks to maintain optimal database performance.


• Implement and maintain monitoring tools and alerts to ensure timely detection and resolution of database-related incidents.


• Perform routine maintenance tasks, including upgrades, patching, and capacity planning, to ensure database platform stability and scalability.

Continuous Improvement:


• Identify opportunities to enhance Opensource database functionality, security, and efficiency.


• Lead efforts to optimize resource utilization, improve performance, and reduce downtime through continuous monitoring and analysis.


• Stay up-to-date with emerging Opensource database technologies, trends, and best practices, and drive innovation within the Opensource database ecosystem.

Backup and Recovery:


• Develop and implement robust backup and recovery strategies for Opensource database platforms and associated data.


• Establish backup and recovery processes and procedures, ensuring data integrity and minimizing downtime in case of database failures.


• Conduct regular backups, validate backup data, and oversee the recovery process when needed.

Documentation and Reporting:


• Create and maintain comprehensive documentation, including database architecture, configurations, operational procedures, and troubleshooting guides.


• Generate reports and metrics to track Opensource database platform performance, availability, and adherence to service level agreements (SLAs).


• Provide regular status updates and reports to stakeholders, management, and other teams.

Requirements:


• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field. A master's degree is a plus.


• Proven experience of 10 to 14 years in Opensource database management, with a focus on implementation, operation, monitoring, improvements, backup, and recovery.


• Strong leadership and managerial skills, with a demonstrated ability to lead and motivate a team.
• Extensive knowledge of Opensource databases such as MariaDB, MongoDB, Cassandra, Redis, PostgreSQL, and their associated tools and technologies.


• Hands-on experience in implementing, managing, and operating Opensource database platforms in production environments.


• Proficiency in monitoring and logging tools for Opensource databases, such as Nagios, Grafana, Prometheus, or similar solutions.


• Experience in backup and recovery solutions for Opensource databases.


• Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills to address database-related incidents and issues.


• Exceptional documentation and communication skills.


• Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, stakeholders, and senior management.


• Relevant certifications in Opensource databases and database administration are highly desirable.
