BAT has impacted the lives of over 11.8 million people across India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka with high-impact interventions addressing the subcontinent's critical unmet needs in the areas of livelihoods, mental health, education, child protection, and conservation.

In the area of conservation, BAT supports the recovery and regeneration of biodiversity, secure habitats, and fosters coexistence between people and the wildlife they share spaces with.

The organization would like to hire an outstanding Manager - Development (MD) ,with responsibility for stewarding, initiating, and building relationships with high-net-worth individuals (HNIs) and corporate partners, and securing their financial support for BAT 's work in conservation in India.

Reporting to the Head of Development (HOD), the MD shall be responsible for accelerating the growth of income from HNIs and corporate supporters, managing relationships with both current and prospective donors.

S/he shall also support the HOD in reporting, documenting, and maintaining all data relating to donors and relevant events.

Key Job Responsibilities:
(1) Proactively identify HNIs, institutional and corporate prospects and expand BAT 's networks and opportunities;
(2) Research prospective philanthropic and corporate supporters to develop individual cultivation strategies for each donor/ prospect to move them along the relationship journey;
(3) Establish innovative and effective cultivation and stewardship opportunities, including working with the communications and marketing team;
(4) Identify areas where prospects might be interested in supporting areas of BAT 's work outside of conservation and work with the HOD to cultivate the relationship for such opportunities as well;
(5) Support the delivery of a long-term philanthropy strategy and annual operational plan to maximise income from individual and corporate partners;
(6) Work with colleagues to build and maintain a personal prospect and donor portfolio, making five to seven-figure gifts;
(7) Develop compelling cases for support and pitches for transformational projects and events, working closely and in alignment with BAT 's conservation programmes;
(8) Work with the Programmes team to identify matches between potential donors' interests and current funding requirements, ensuring that funders' priorities are carefully balanced with overall organisational funding needs;
(9) Focus on the delivery of an agreed set of objectives, aligned to operational plans including fair, but ambitious, financial targets;
(10) Take responsibility for her/ his continuous personal and professional development, aspiring for best-in-class major donor fundraising;
(11) Collaborate with colleagues in all parts of the organisation to ensure philanthropy audiences are represented and understood, and BAT 's funding needs are communicated effectively;
(12) Ensure approaches to major donor and corporate partner fundraising follow BAT 's internal processes, and policies and abide to all relevant legislation, regulations, and industry standards;
(13) Maintain up-to-date records of all communications with donors/ prospects in Salesforce;
(14) Ensure the adoption of a systematic "Thanking and Banking," system; Ensure thanking of donors is timely and genuine;
(15) Ensure timely processing of invoices and systematic payment monitoring;
(16) Provide reports on pipeline activity and budgets as required;
(17) Produce and update budgets;
(18) Support the HOD in developing overall plans and approaches for advancing fundraising opportunities.

QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND COMPETENCIES:

Qualification:
Applicants should be graduates from a recognized university, or institution.

Essential Experience:
(1) Minimum five to seven years of experience is required;
(2) Prior exposure and familiarity with philanthropic programmes in the conservation space with emphasis on biodiversity, secure habitats, and coexistence between people and the wildlife;
(3) An outstanding track record of soliciting and securing significant gifts and grants from HNIs and corporates;
(4) Experience in building long-term, philanthropic partnerships with both current and prospective HNIs and corporates;
(5) Experience of working with senior colleagues to grow networks, identify opportunities, and secure income;
(6) Experience in proactively developing new major donor and corporate fundraising initiatives;
(7) Experience in managing a high-value and diverse portfolio of donors including complex relationships and working towards and achieving ambitious targets.

Desirable Experience:
(1) Experience of working within an international development organisation or charity preferably in the conservation space is desirable;
(2) Experience of working with large complex budgets.

Essential Skills and Competencies:
(1) Must have strong problem-solving skills;
(2) Strong organisational skills, and a proven ability to prioritise and manage a varied workload, take initiative, and meet deadlines. Ability to input into and manage data sets as needed;
(3) Ability to work co-operatively and flexibly with others, both within and outside the organisation, demonstrating an understanding of effective teamwork and partnerships;
(4) Exceptional relationship management and communication skills (written, spoken, and listening); Ability to communicate complex information to senior stakeholders;
(5) Expertise in presenting in a persuasive manner and negotiating with people, with good PowerPoint skills for presentations;
(6) In-depth understanding of the expectations of HNIs, including time management, meticulous attention to detail and the production of high-quality, creative and compelling materials;
(7) Team player, highly motivated, tenacious and results driven with personal gravitas.

COMPENSATION OFFERED:
Gross compensation budgeted for the position is attractive. Please note that the offer made to the selected candidate shall be commensurate with qualifications, experience, and salary history.

  • LOCATION: Mumbai or Bangalore or Gurugram or Delhi
  • CONTRACT DURATION: This is a full-time position. The successful candidate shall be offered a fixed-term consultancy contract with BAT , for an initial period of two years.

WORKING DAYS & MODALITY:
BAT observes a five-day working week.

Staff are allowed flexible working, based on their location:

(a)

For Gurugram or Delhi:
Flexible working for two days each week
(b)

For Mumbai or Bangalore:
The incumbent will work remotely till a local office is established.
The job entails periodic need-based travel.
