Roles and Responsibilities
Researching and Understanding the Subject: The script writer must thoroughly research and gain a deep understanding of the subject matter of the documentary. This includes studying relevant sources, conducting interviews, and becoming knowledgeable about the topic/person to create an accurate and engaging script. Developing a Concept and Structure: Based on the research, the script writer develops a concept for the videos and determines its overall structure. They decide on the main themes, key points, and the flow of information to create a cohesive narrative.
Crafting a Compelling Story: Identify the most interesting aspects of the subject and highlight them in a way that maintains the viewer's interest throughout the video. Writing the Script: The script writer creates the written content that will be used as the foundation for the documentary. This includes writing the narration, dialogue, voiceovers, and on-screen text. They must ensure that the language used is clear, concise, appropriate for the target audience and grammatically correct
Collaborating with the Director and Production Team: The script writer works closely with the director and the production team to align the creative vision of the documentary. They participate in brainstorming sessions, provide input on visual elements, and collaborate to enhance the overall storytelling. Maintaining Accuracy and Objectivity: Documentaries aim to present factual information, and it's the script writer's responsibility to ensure accuracy. They must fact-check the content, verify sources, and avoid any biased or misleading information. Objectivity is essential to maintain the credibility of the videos.
Adapting to Visual and Audio Elements: The script writer should consider how the script will be integrated with visual and audio elements in the final production. They need to be mindful of pacing, timing, and transitions to create a seamless and impactful viewing experience. Revisions and Iterations: The script writer should be open to feedback and revisions. They work closely with the director and the production team to incorporate changes, improve the script, and align it with the overall vision of the documentary.
Continuous Learning and Adaptation: To excel in this role, the script writer should stay updated with industry trends, new storytelling techniques, and emerging technologies. They should be adaptable and willing to learn and experiment with different styles and formats to enhance their skills as a creative script writer.
Skills and Qualifications
- Graduate/Post Graduate in Journalism/Media Studies from a reputed university.
- Experience in video content creation for a digital platform is a must
