Job profile - CAD Engineer II

Technical Requirements / Skills

  • Minimum 3 years of demonstrated expertise in utilizing Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software, such as CATIA , SolidWorks, or Siemens NX, to create intricate and precise structural designs. Ability to efficiently navigate through complex assemblies, generate detailed drawings.
  • Experience in the aerospace, space or defense sector is preferred, along with proficiency in creating and manipulating complex geometric shapes to meet stringent spacecraft design requirements and performance objectives.
  • Strong understanding of structural analysis principles, including stress analysis, vibration analysis, and thermal analysis. Ability to interpret analysis results and implement design modifications to optimize structural integrity, stiffness, and mass efficiency.
  • Experience in designing for manufacturability and assembly (DFMA), and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) principles
  • Preferred experience in electrical routing within CAD environments, including routing of wires, cables, and harnesses to ensure proper integration of electrical systems within spacecraft structures. Familiarity with rendering tools and techniques to visualize and communicate electrical layouts effectively.

Other requirements/ skills:

  • Strong aptitude for creating detailed technical drawings, assembly instructions, design presentations, and engineering documentation in compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements
  • Familiarity with materials commonly used in spacecraft construction and a passion for space product development
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze complex design challenges, identify root causes, and develop innovative solutions to overcome technical obstacles. Proficiency in conducting trade-off analyses and risk assessments to evaluate design alternatives and make informed decisions.
  • Willingness to adapt to evolving project requirements, adopt new methodologies, and acquire new skills to enhance personal and team performance.5. Ability to collaborate with Assembly and Integration, and Production teams to optimize design solutions for efficient fabrication and integration.

Responsibilities:

  • Execute engineering tasks associated with configuring, deploying, maintaining, and updating high-quality CAD models within specified time frames. Ensure adherence to project requirements and standards throughout the modeling process.
  • Utilize Design for Additive Manufacturing (DFAM), Design for Manufacturing (DFM), and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) principles to assess limitations, assumptions, and solutions during the design and development of CAD models. Strive for optimized designs that meet functional and manufacturing requirements.
  • Generate detailed assembly and part-level drawings, ensuring accuracy and completeness. Maintain and release drawings for production purposes, including the creation of Bills of Materials (BOMs) to facilitate procurement and manufacturing processes.
  • Manage file configuration and ensure proper versioning practices are followed. Collaborate with Product Data Management (PDM) clients to organize, track, and control CAD files, ensuring data integrity and traceability.
  • Collaborate with electrical engineers to assist in the routing of wires, cables, and harnesses for satellite components within CAD environments. Ensure proper integration of electrical systems into spacecraft structures while adhering to design requirements and industry standards.
  • Act as a liaison between engineering teams and Assembly, Integration, and Test (AIT), production, and Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) teams. Resolve manufacturing issues, provide support in developing assembly plans, and address quality concerns to ensure successful production outcomes.
  • Produce detailed renders of products using CAD software to support documentation and proposal creation efforts. Utilize rendering tools and techniques to visualize designs accurately and effectively communicate design concepts to stakeholders.
  • Convert 2D drawings into 3D CAD models, ensuring accuracy and fidelity to the original design intent. Thoroughly review and understand 2D drawings to facilitate the conversion process and maintain design consistency.
  • Utilize SolidWorks CAD plugins to perform rendering tasks, enhancing the visual representation of CAD models for documentation, presentation, and promotional materials.
