Overview

This is a new role created due to new responsibilities 'cloud first' projects require for automation to be developed to facilitate provisioning, reporting, metrics, or remediation of services in the cloud automatically, with audit trails of work completed, and automated "undo" functionality in case it is required.

The Cloud Platform Enablement team supports all global cloud related projects working with both internal teams (such as Product and Application Owners) and 3rd party vendors.

This Automation is responsible for developing scripting in various toolsets to pull data out of the cloud platform for metric reporting, or to develop scripting to build / revise services in the cloud as per customer request.

In this role the automation engineer will act as an expert for all automation, and partnership for any integrations with their tooling to be compliant with DevSecOps.


Responsibilities

  • Drive automation implementation and manage backlog in support of the multiyear cloud transformation journey
  • Partner with Cloud Engineering, Cloud Ops, and other teams in executing projects / automation implementation to ensure mínimal risk and business disruption
  • Build detailed project implementation plans in collaboration with partners and other stakeholders and drive consensus on these plans (as required, for complex automation initiatives)
  • Develop code/scripts in Python, Java, Bash, or Powershell
  • Develop processes leveraging Public Cloud CI/CD processes preferably Azure & AWS
  • Develop, test & deploy of automation, using CI/CD tooling & best practices
  • Employ strong automation vision/mindset to recognize opportunities to reduce manual updates/changes with automation
  • Lead innovation activities and integration of new technologies into projects and activities in the software systems design organization
  • Assess differences in automation requirements for PaaS vs. IaaS, Azure vs. AWS
  • Ensure all automation complies with required security / controls requirements
  • Help define requirements and develop automation to measure relevant cloud project KPIs to ensure overall program health across budget, infrastructure currency, performance, stability, efficiency, etc.
  • Provide solid technological understanding of cloud infrastructures, capabilities, and security models
  • Partner with Service Providers to ensure service levels, key performance indicators, and other metrics are reported on accurately
  • Collaborate with Risk and Compliance to lead development and ownership controls related to automation
  • Identify the roles, skills and knowledge required including helping to grow / develop the team through hands on training and coaching
  • Create appropriate communication, process, and educational plans for cloud projects and minimizing disruptions
  • Deal with multiple stakeholders (across Engineering, Architecture, Operations, Information Security, Sector CIO teams) and vendors

Qualifications
A leader with strong communications and organizational skills with the ability to deal with ambiguity while juggling multiple priorities and projects at the same time

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in computer science, engineering, or related field
  • 5+ years of related IT business work experience
  • 3 years of relevant experience in cloud infrastructure principles and methodologies
  • 3 years of relevant experience with Infrastructure delivery and/or operations
  • 2+ years of cloud experience including project implementation and optimization of optimization of cloud cost (IaaS and PaaS)
  • 2+ years of cloud Automation experience including assessing automation methods and optimization of optimization of cloud cost (IaaS and PaaS)
Technical Skills Required

  • Experience working in a multicloud environment with demonstrated experience leading cloud deployment projects (including cloud native development and migration)
  • Understanding of Public Cloud Automation process, automation experience using configuration management tools, such as Puppet, Chef, Ansible.
  • Strong coding/scripting skills (Shell and Powershell, Python or Java or Bash, Perl)
  • Hands on experience with Public Cloud CI/CD process preferably Azure & AWS
  • Ability to identify automation opportunities
  • Experience in creating scripts in support of cloud reporting (metrics, KPIs, license counts, etc.)
  • Solid understanding of Containerization and Virtualization technologies such as VMWare, docker
  • Experience working with Azure DevOps or similar tools for tracking, developing, deploying software
  • Experience with configuration, migration and deployment efforts related to Azure or AWS IaaS/PaaS Technologies
  • Experience operating complex multidata center, multicluster environment and a strong understanding of multitenancy and security
  • Experience in hybrid multicloud environment both IaaS and PaaS offerings
