About the JobResponsible for supporting the AVP – Sponge Iron Unit (SIU) with planning, overseeing, and reporting all daily operational activities of both the kilns in the Sponge Iron Unit (SIU) and the associated Raw Material Processing (RMP) unit.


The individual must ensure smooth plant operations and must have a deep understanding of Sponge Iron Unit planning, operations, and maintenance.

Roles and Responsibilities


Plant OperationsSupport the AVP SIU with managing all the operational workstreams and activities of the entire SIU covering both kilns and the RMP unit to ensure optimal efficiency, productivity, and profitability.

Support the AVP SIU and other relevant stakeholders with the development and implementation of SIU operational policies and procedures to ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements and industry standards.

Monitor the operations both kilns and RMP unit, and overall plant performance and guide relevant functional heads with identifying and implementing improvements to increase efficiency, reduce costs, and improve reliability.

Manage and lead a team of managers, engineers, technicians, and operators to ensure all activities are performed safely and effectivelySupport and guide the development and implementation of various operational and technical systems and processes to monitor, record, and control the consumption of raw material, energy and other resources.

Monitor and validate the quality tests performed for all SIU unit raw materials and accordingly plan for the consumption of the same.

Monitor the quality tests performed for all finished goods and ensure adherence with the production plan.

Ensure that the entire workforce of SIU & RMP unit is trained, equipped, and supervised appropriately to carry out their duties effectivelyConduct daily visits across the plant to observe, validate, and rectify process deviances and abnormalities.

Contribute to the development and implementation of periodic maintenance schedules as well as planned shutdown activities both kiln areas, machinery, and equipment to ensure minimum breakdown events and provide relevant inputs for the same.

Ensure all activities are performed as per departmental SOPs and procedures, and appropriately documented for reporting.


General ManagementAttend the SIU operations and maintenance budget planning and management meetings with relevant departments and ensure appropriate coordination of activities and effective communication across the organizationOversee the implementation of periodic skills and knowledge development training programs across the SIU team and provide relevant support as requiredOversee the maintenance of accurate records of plant operations, quality tests, and maintenance activities.

Validate the plant operations data sets at daily review meetings and to establish adherence to production plan, identify deviances, assess root causes of the same, and develop action plans to eliminate/resolve the same.

Prepare and present the kiln operations data sets at the regular CRM, MAT and SCM events and justify the deviances with appropriate support from Manager Process.

Maintain a safe working environment, ensuring that all employees are trained in safety protocols and that all equipment is properly maintained.

Perform any additional tasks as requested by top management.

Requirements and Skills

Desired QualificationsBachelors in Mechanical, Chemical, or Production Engineering from a reputable institute.
Master's degree in similar field preferred.
Certifications in operational excellence methodologies (Lean, Six Sigma, TQM, etc.) desirable.

Desired Experience8+ years of experience in steel plant operations, preferably in Sponge Iron plant04+ years of leadership roleFunctional SkillsDeep understanding of SIU operations and maintenance, including knowledge of submerged furnaces, electric arc, and other related equipmentProven track record of successful plant management and operational excellenceKnowledge of health, safety, and environmental regulations and policiesStrong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office.
