Summary:

The pivotal role of senior MySQL developer involves managing and optimizing MySQL and Amazon Aurora databases within our AWS cloud infrastructure. The ideal candidate will possess expertise in utilizing industry-standard tools to improve database performance, security, and scalability. They will assist in business discovery and execute job functions based on written specifications and established guidelines while maintaining accurate documentation of provided solutions.

SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Database Development and Optimization: Design and develop robust databases using MySQL and Amazon Aurora. Implement changes and enhancements using tools like MySQL Workbench and AWS Management Console.
  • SQL Scripting and Automation: Create advanced SQL scripts for routine database operations and utilize automation tools like AWS Lambda for task automation.
  • Performance Tuning: Analyze and improve database performance using tools such as Amazon Performance Insights, MySQL Enterprise Monitor, and other performance tuning tools.
  • Security Management: Implement security measures utilizing AWS IAM, Amazon VPC, and MySQL security plugins to ensure compliance with data protection regulations.
  • Cloud Database Management: Utilize AWS services including RDS for MySQL and Aurora, EC2, S3, and CloudWatch for optimal operation and monitoring.
  • Troubleshooting and Technical Support: Resolve database issues using tools like Percona Toolkit and Toad for MySQL.
  • Documentation and Compliance: Document all database procedures and configurations using collaboration tools like Confluence to meet industry standards and best practices.
RELATIONSHIPS/CONTACTS
  • Reports directly to the Manager, Application Development.
  • Collaborates with employees at all organizational levels.
  • This position does not involve managing direct reports.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • EDUCATION: Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • EXPERIENCE: Minimum of 7 years of experience in IT as a senior MySQL/AWS Aurora Database Developer.
  • TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE and/or ABILITIES: Candidates should have at least 7 years of experience with MySQL and Amazon Aurora in a production environment, proficiency in database administration tools, strong analytical skills, experience with database performance tools, and familiarity with AWS cloud services.
  • Preferred skills include AWS certifications, experience with database automation tools and scripting languages, knowledge of other database technologies, and familiarity with DevOps tools.
  • Ability to analyze and resolve complex issues, understanding of business strategies, and effective problem-solving skills. Additionally, demonstrated leadership ability, excellent interpersonal and consulting skills, and the capacity to develop relationships and influence stakeholders at all levels.
  • Demonstrated presentation, oral and written communication skills, and the ability to enforce compliance with regulations and company standards.
