Duties
With limited direction, the jobholder must handle a variety of ACS cases, such as deaths, arrests, destitution cases, repatriation, psychiatric cases, medical emergencies, and welfare and whereabouts checks.
The employee must have a good knowledge of Indian law and society, knowledge of Department guidelines, and a good understanding of the workings of the Department and other government bodies.
The employee frequently provides support to the American Supervisor on prison, hospital and welfare and whereabouts visits involving child custody cases.
This support includes liaising with local officials and service providers, providing resources to affected U.S.citizens, providing guidance to consular officers on legal processes, and translation assistance.
The employee liaises with the deputy level officials from Indian government bodies to assist U.S.citizens in times of crises. Advices supervisory ACS LES and supervisory consular officer on cases of suspected fraud.During crisis situations or in the absence of the supervisory ACS LES, guides consular staff in ACS functions to respond to U.S.
Citizen needs in an emergency.Qualifications and Evaluations
Requirements:
JOB KNOWLEDGE:
The employee should have good computer skills and sound knowledge of internal operating procedures and all areas of consular work.
They should acquire on-the-job knowledge of local law, regulations, State Department instructions, legal fraud trends. The employee should have thorough knowledge of applicable U.S. laws, regulations, State Department instructions, legal precedents, and court decisions. The employee should have clear understanding of Indian law, practices, and general environment.Education Requirements:

Level IV in English (speak/read/write) and Level III in Telugu or Hindi (speak/read) - This may be tested
SKILLS AND ABILITIES :
The employees should exercise tact and careful handling in dealing with the public under difficult and sensitive circumstances and should have the ability to work in a high-stress, high-volume production environment.
The employee must be able to manipulate large volumes of diverse data to identify trends, and must be able to perform rapid database searches to obtain critical information quickly in an emergency.
They must learn the complex and specialized software programs required to perform all aspects of consular work, and should have a good working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
The employee must have the ability to understand regulatory documents such as 7 and 8 FAM and citizenship sections of the Immigration and Nationality Act.
