Test Manager Qualification:
Graduate (Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or in "STEM" Majors (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) or related field)

Responsibility:

Test Requirement Analysis:

  • Create/modify/review Master Test Strategy document for significant projects.
  • Create/update/review Test Estimations, Project/Sprint Planning efforts.
  • Utilize past project experiences and lessons learned for enhanced requirement analysis.
  • Assess architecture & design work using White Box testing techniques to identify defects and leverage predefined checklists and solution accelerators(if available).

Test Strategy and Test Planning:


Create a test strategy including release date, types of testing, project scope, detailed explanation of each release, RAID Risk, Assumptions, Issues and Dependencies etc.

Gather inputs from the client on Types of testing, Development teams, Client managers etc.

Prepare a test plan outlining timelines, resource (Man/Machine) deployment (Testing process).

Obtain approval on the test plan.

  • Engage in Project/Sprint Planning to establish sprint goals, conduct scrum review meetings, identify product backlogs & communicate risks/issues to the scrum team for prompt resolution.
  • Review and obtain approval from the customer on Lessons Learned and Retrospection Reports for every release.

Test Design Techniques (Design principles/tools/patterns):

  • Assess test scenarios and seek necessary reviews. Track the root cause of review comments and take corrective actions.
  • Review test cases and traceability matrix to ensure complete coverage of requirements.
  • Monitor downtime and report to the client.
  • Assist the team/client in User Acceptance Testing (UAT)/Business User Testing (BUT) if applicable.
  • Conduct sanity testing to confirm system readiness for testing. Upload test cases.
  • Validate test environment readiness for execution and prepare the test lab.
  • Obtain client sign off at various stages of the cycle as needed

Only For Onsite Coordinator:

  • Support Business Lead at the client's site in UAT. If needed, identify test data for UAT.
  • Create a Run Plan document outlining test case priorities based on complexity.

Coding Practices & Defect Management:

  • Possess a comprehensive view of quality domain, user experience, Black box, White box testing.
  • Capable of estimating and committing to task level effort and delivering activities punctually.
  • Review team-logged defects and assign them to the appropriate owner.
  • Engage in effective technical communication by participating in architectural/design reviews.
  • Speak the language of developers.
  • Support Quality Assurance objectives.
  • Comply with all customer standards, policies, and governance practices.
  • Thorough understanding of the complete development lifecycle and active involvement in all phases.


Interact with development teams and architects early in the project life cycle to identify dependencies on architecture design, low-level design components & coding standards, test data dependencies, environment dependencies, etc.


Test Execution (Automation/Specialized testing):

  • Develop and implement top-notch automation framework based on AUT.
  • Review test results and clarify team queries during execution.
  • Prepare Test Summary Report and share for review/Review test results/reports submitted by the testing analyst.
  • Capture lessons learned and best practices employed.
  • Regularly generate metrics tailored to the audience.
  • Review metrics to pinpoint areas for process enhancement.
  • Create robust test automation scripts.
  • Design the Web Services testing framework for Web Services.
  • Define, deploy & monitor metrics configuration through DevOps.
  • Possess expert knowledge of multithreading & other QE tools & technology.


Collaborate with development, release & deployment team stakeholders to determine go/no-go decisions based on test results and test closure summary report.

Possess specialized expertise in Continuous Integration/Deployment & delivery utilizing industry-leading tools & technologies.

Conduct frequent monitoring & Failure analysis.

Address script issues/errors promptly.

Share status updates with onsite and all teams regularly.

Conduct regular optimization and maintenance activities.

Technology Consulting Research & Analysis:

  • Participate in quality, design decisions to ensure automation, stability, usability & scalability of the application under test.
  • Conduct code quality assessment, coverage analysis & productivity evaluations to ensure comprehensive program coverage by test suites

People Management:
Organize boot camps for new team members.

  • Cultivate positive relationships with peers.
Identify team members' training needs.

Recognize, groom, reward, and develop high-performing individuals.

Resolve escalated conflicts and grievances

Knowledge & Innovation Management:
Mentor/coach the team to develop knowledge artifacts (e.g., collaterals, reusable assets) to enhance knowledge management.

Enhance existing processes based on insights and experiences.


Institute systems and procedures to implement innovative ideas suggested by the team (e.g., adoption of Cognizant proprietary best practices/tools, process refinement like tool usage, automation, etc ).

Identify time and cost savings resulting from best practices adoption.

Create an environment for team members to innovate and exchange ideas.

Project, Configuration & Release Management:

  • Review daily deliverables and share them appropriately with stakeholders.
  • Create and share weekly and daily status reports with the team and relevant stakeholders.
  • Facilitate communication between onsite and offshore teams to discuss project status.
  • Identify resources based on estimations and required skill sets. (Only For Maintenance/Enhancements Project).
  • Estimate enhancements based on understanding of requirements.
  • Conduct Proof of Concepts (POCs) on tools (e.g., accelerators, performance enhancers) as needed.
  • Collaborate with the release manager to stay informed about activities in the test environment (e.g., build schedule) and ensure correct components move to production.
