The Senior Data Architect at Kaplan North America (KNA) within the Sales, Planning & Analytics (SPA) division will work with world class psychometricians, data scientists, data engineers and business analysts to forever change the face of education.

This role is for a meticulous, hands-on technical expert who will drive innovation, data strategy and architecture across a wide range of new and existing capabilities including our strategy for a world-class Lake House Architecture.

The Senior Data Architect will collaborate closely with enterprise IT Teams, engineering, data and analytics teams to design and implement business-critical enterprise data solutions.

The ideal candidate will have proven expertise in data architecture, data modeling and data engineering with significant experience advocating solutions for cloud-native real-time data management platforms.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Design and implement effective database solutions and models to capture, store and track business data.
  • Provide analysis, counsel and direction to engineering and data science teams on enterprise data management best practices.
  • Define and implement architectural guidelines for high-velocity data processing infrastructure.
  • Oversee data migration from legacy to new systems and for systems consolidation.
  • Train technology and business users on database application industry standards and conventions.
  • Collaborate with security architects and data governance personnel to ensure proactive data security and privacy compliance for end-to-end data lifecycle management activities.
  • Work across multiple teams in high visibility roles and own the solution end-to-end. Interface with engineers, developers, product managers, and business analysts to understand data needs.
  • Partner with enterprise support teams and leadership to make Data Architecture part of a holistic enterprise strategy.
  • Also responsible for other duties/projects as assigned by management as needed.
  • Hybrid Schedule: 3 days remote / 2 days in office
  • 30-day notification period preferred

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Computer Science or related technical field
  • Mathematics, Computer Science, Engineering, Finance, Statistics, Or Related Technical Field and/or MBA
  • 5+ years of experience in Data Architecture or Data Engineering.
  • Experience providing status updates to executives and experience initiating and driving projects.
  • Data architecture experience.
  • Experience with modern AWS analytics tools (Glue, Data Lake Formation, RA3, QuickSight, Data Catalog)
  • Experience performing data acquisition from source databases and APIs.

Preferred Qualifications

  • One or more AWS certifications
  • Experience developing in an on-prem/hybrid environment
  • Experience with cloud resource provisioning and configuration
  • Experience with other major cloud providers (Azure, Oracle)
  • Experience with other data modeling and visualization tools (Tableau)
  • Experience developing solutions using Apache airflow, Lambda Functions, Glue
  • Experience with Agile tools (Jira)
  • Knowledge of CI/CD processes (GitHub Actions, AWSCode)
  • Knowledge of one or more MDM or Data Governance tools (Collibra, etc.)
