About the Role:

We're looking for a skilled Backend Engineer to join our fast-growing engineering team and help build core features of SKALX a next-generation, AI-powered vertical marketplace serving the Scale Model Industry (Aircraft, Automotive, Military, Railway, Sci-Fi, etc.).

In this role, you'll focus on implementing scalable backend logic, REST APIs, and service integrations that power user workflows, product systems, search, payments, and more. While the Database Engineer focuses on data structure and modeling, you will focus on backend functionality, system integration, and performance.

Key Responsibilities:

1. API Development & Backend Logic

• Design and implement REST APIs to support SKALX's commerce, user, and product modules
• Implement backend logic for actions like product listing, cart management, order processing, user onboarding, etc.
• Integrate with external services (e.g., payment gateways, shipping APIs, email/SMS providers)

2. Framework & Application Development

• Develop backend services using modern frameworks like Node.js (Express/NestJS) or Python (FastAPI/Django)
• Build modular codebases that are maintainable and testable
• Implement secure authentication/authorization flows (JWT, OAuth, RBAC)

3. Performance & Reliability

• Optimize backend code and API performance for speed and reliability
• Handle caching, rate limiting, queuing (e.g., Redis, Celery, BullMQ)
• Implement error handling, logging, and monitoring

4. Team Collaboration

• Work closely with frontend engineers, database engineers, designers, and product managers
• Participate in agile sprints, standups, code reviews, and system design discussions
• Write API documentation and internal dev notes

Required Skills and Qualifications:

Technical Expertise:

• Solid knowledge of Node.js or Python for backend development
• Experience with backend frameworks like Express , NestJS , Django , or FastAPI
• Strong understanding of RESTful architecture
• Familiarity with PostgreSQL / MySQL / MongoDB (querying & integration)
• Git, GitHub, and basic CI/CD workflows

Bonus Skills:

• Working knowledge of GraphQL, WebSockets
• Integration with payment, shipping, or notification services
• Experience with containerized environments (Docker)
• Cloud platforms (AWS/GCP/Supabase/Firebase)
• Experience building APIs for e-commerce, marketplaces , or creator platforms

Domain Knowledge (Preferred):

·      Experience working in e-commerce or marketplace platforms.

·      Familiarity with product variant systems (e.g., kits with different accessories or scales).

·      Knowledge of authentication/authorization best practices.

·      Passion or curiosity for scale modeling (decals, miniatures, kits).

Soft Skills:

• Ability to understand product requirements and translate into technical logic
• Clear communication and documentation habits
• Self-motivated, team-oriented, and curious

Preferred Experience:

• 0–2 years of experience in backend/API development
• Strong internships or project experience in real-world backend systems
• Final-year students encouraged to apply
• Pre-final-year (2026 batch) students can apply for paid internship with conversion track
