The Role: Electronics Engineer, Research & Development

As an Electronics Engineer in our R&D team, you will be instrumental in designing and implementing the critical electronic and hardware systems that enable our cutting-edge digital DNA data storage solutions. You will work in close collaboration with our Biotechnology and Chemical Engineering teams, bridging the gap between biological processes and digital infrastructure.

You will translate biological concepts and chemical processes into tangible, automated electronic systems, making the theoretical possibilities of DNA data storage a practical reality. Your contributions will directly impact our ability to store, retrieve, and process digital information in an entirely new way, positioning OWL as a leader in this nascent field.

Responsibilities:

• Design, develop, and test electronic circuits and systems for automated DNA synthesis, sequencing, and retrieval platforms.
• Determine and develop user requirements for precision instrumentation, ensuring maximum usability and integration within our biological workflows.
• Collaborate closely with Biotechnology Engineers to translate biological protocols into automated electronic control sequences.
• Work with Chemical Engineers to design systems for precise reagent handling, mixing, and reaction condition control.
• Develop and integrate sensor technologies for real-time monitoring of DNA synthesis and reaction progress.
• Design and implement embedded systems for controlling custom hardware and managing data acquisition.
• Perform debugging, troubleshooting, and optimization of electronic components and systems to enhance performance and reliability.
• Document designs, test procedures, and experimental results thoroughly and accurately.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's, Master's or PHD degree in Electronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering (with an Electronics focus), Instrumentation and Electronics Engineering, or a closely related field.
• Proven experience in electronic circuit design (analog and digital), PCB layout, and prototyping.
• Familiarity with microcontroller programming and embedded systems development.
• Strong understanding of sensor technologies and data acquisition systems.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and a meticulous approach to design and testing.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams (Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science).
• A strong passion for pioneering interdisciplinary solutions at the intersection of biology and technology.

Preferences:

• Candidates from esteemed institutions such as the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) or Indian Institute of Science (IISc) will be preferred.
• A bit of relevant professional experience is a plus point, but we highly value individuals who can truly think out-of-the-box and possess an exceptional problem-solving attitude. We are looking for innovators eager to tackle complex challenges in a pioneering field.
