We are building India's first commercial Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) from the ground up. This is not an integration project. We will design our own electron optics, high-voltage systems, precision mechanics, and real-time control software. Your Mission

  • Own the complete electron-optical column: thermionic source, condenser & objective lenses, SE/BSE detectors.
  • Push a tungsten cathode to ≤10 nm resolution at 20 kV, while also delivering a stable, high-current beam (≥1 nA) for analytical work—among the best ever reported for a thermionic system.
  • Minimise spherical and chromatic aberrations through iterative modelling (COMSOL / SIMION / Opera-3D) and hardware prototyping.
  • Derive and flow down stability & alignment budgets to high-voltage and mechanical teams (≤1 µm source drift / 8 hr, ≤50 nm lens-to-lens decenter).
  • Design modular, UHV-compatible lens stacks that can later accept a Schottky or cold-field upgrade without a full redesign.

Who You Are

  • PhD or 6+ yrs R&D in electron/ion optics, accelerator physics, or charged-particle instrumentation.
  • Hands-on with high-vacuum hardware, electron guns, electrostatic/magnetic lens design.
  • Fluent in at least one high-fidelity field solver (COMSOL, SIMION, CST).
  • Comfort translating aberration theory into tolerance tables a machinist can hit.
