Position OverviewThe Design Engineer is responsible for the design, engineering, and documentation of Gas Compressor Control Panels and Condition Monitoring Systems. This role emphasizes compliance with international standards, safety in hazardous environments, and the delivery of solutions tailored to customer specifications in the oil and gas sector.Key ResponsibilitiesTechnical Analysis & DocumentationStudy and interpret customer specifications to develop accurate Technical Bills of Materials (BOM) and engineering drawings.Prepare comprehensive project documentation, ensuring clarity and compliance with client and regulatory requirements.Conduct site studies and prepare project overview reports as needed.Design & DraftingProduce precise control system and control panel designs using AutoCAD and E-Plan.Develop layout, wiring, and schematic diagrams for a variety of control panels, ensuring optimal functionality and safety.Standards & ComplianceEnsure all designs and materials meet relevant international standards (IEC 61439, UL, CE, IECEx, ATEX).Integrate hazardous area zone classifications (Zone 0, 1, 2, etc.) into panel designs, adhering to safety regulations for explosive and flammable environments.Specialized Panel ExpertiseDesign flameproof, purge, and local control panels for hazardous area installations.Collaborate with cross-functional teams to address unique challenges in hazardous environments.Project ManagementOversee multiple projects simultaneously, from concept through delivery, maintaining schedules and resource allocation.Provide timely technical offers and proposals to customers, balancing accuracy with responsiveness.Quality AssuranceConduct design reviews and ensure rigorous quality control throughout the engineering process.Support testing, inspection, and commissioning activities as required.Required Qualifications & SkillsExperience3 to 4 years of hands-on experience in electrical panel design, preferably in industrial or oil and gas sectors.Technical SkillsProficiency in AutoCAD for electrical design and drafting.Strong understanding of IEC 61439, UL, CE, IECEx, and ATEX standards.Familiarity with hazardous area classifications and safety protocols.Industry KnowledgeExperience designing local control panels and Condition Monitoring Systems for hazardous environments.Project ManagementAbility to manage multiple projects, prioritize tasks, and deliver results under tight deadlines.CommunicationExcellent written and verbal communication skills for client interaction and technical documentation.Problem-SolvingStrong analytical and troubleshooting abilities in complex engineering scenarios.Preferred AttributesCertification or training in hazardous area equipment design.Experience with international projects or export panel requirements.Strong teamwork and leadership capabilities.Career PathThis position offers growth into roles such as Lead Design Engineer, Engineering Manager, or Technical Consultant, with increasing responsibility for project delivery, team leadership, and client engagement.Work EnvironmentOffice-based with site visits for surveys, project meetings, inspections, or commissioning.Collaboration with sales, procurement, manufacturing, and quality assurance teams.Reporting StructureReports to: Head of EngineeringThis job profile outlines the essential responsibilities, qualifications, and growth opportunities for a Design Engineer specializing in Gas Compressor Control Panels and Condition Monitoring Systems within the oil and gas sector.
