Job Title: New Product Development Head – Lighting

Location: Gurugram, Haryana

Organization:  Our client is a Manufacturer in India with a Pan India & Global retail presence

Reporting to:  Business Head - Lighting

 

 

JOB SUMMARY

 

The primary responsibility of the Head of New Product Development (NPD) at the lighting business for a premium sanitaryware and lighting brand in India. is to lead the innovation efforts to develop innovative lighting solutions. This role is crucial in driving company growth and maintain a competitive edge in the dynamic lighting industry. This role will lead a team of experienced researchers and engineers to conceive, design and bring to market innovative lighting products that meet customer needs and exceed industry standards.

 

KEY RESPONSIBLITIES:


Strategic Leader:

  • Design a roadmap for new product development and process atomization and improvement activities keeping in view market requirement and the brand image. 
  • Develop and implement the organization’s NPS strategy based on business objectives and market trends.
  • Lead the NPD and R&D team in identifying new technology and marketing opportunities for future product development and continuous improvement in current products and processes.
  • Works with cross-functional teams, including design, product management, sales, marketing, and manufacturing, to ensure coordination and successful execution of R&D and NPD programs.


Innovation:

  • Identify and focus of unique products so that the organization can take a lead in the market over its competitors.
  • Create a culture of innovation within the organization and drive it through the NPD team by encouraging innovation, experimentation and continuous improvement.
  • Explore new ideas, concepts and development of new lighting products from initialization to commercialization.
  • Focus on a user-centric and cost-effective approach to ensure our products meet customer requirements and provide an optimal user experience.
  • Work of reducing and optimizing the manufacturing cost through process improvement and effective ways of manufacturing.


Technical Excellence:

  • Provide technical leadership and direction to NPD and R&D teams in areas such as LED technology, optics, electronics, and materials science.
  • Track the latest advances in lighting technology and industry standards and incorporate them into your product development process.
  • Ensure organization’s products meet regulatory requirements and meet quality standards through testing and certification processes.


Project Management:

  • Manage NPD projects from inception to completion, including resource allocation, scheduling, and budget tracking.
  • Use best practices in project management to optimize efficiency, minimize risk, and deliver projects on time and on budget.
  • Promote collaboration and communication between NPD and R&D teams and departments to facilitate project management and knowledge sharing.


Team Development:

  • Cultivate, develop and retain top talent within the NPD and R&D teams to foster a culture of learning, growth and accountability.
  • Provide guidance and coaching to team members to support professional development and career advancement.

 


REQUIRED SKILLSET:


  • Proven track record of more than 17-20 years, holding leadership positions in NPD and R&D, preferably in the lighting industry or technology sectors.
  • Degree in engineering, physics or related field and an advanced degree is preferred. Deep technical expertise in lighting technology, including LED systems, optical design, thermal management, and control systems.
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to lead cross-functional teams and deliver complex projects on time and within budget.
  • Good communication skills and ability to explain technical concepts to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • A strategic and customer-oriented thinker with a passion for driving innovation and continuous improvement.
  • Strong leadership and team building skills with the ability to inspire and motivate diverse teams toward a common goal.
