About this role

As a Business Analyst you will be responsible for delivery of the full range of analytical activities, supporting the effective delivery of complex change initiatives whilst leading a squad of analysts who will be working on change initiatives across the business.


You will have strong capability in 3 key focus areas:


• Identification and analysis of business problems and definition of future states and solutions.

• Requirements engineering through a variety of business analysis methods to form user stories (functional and non-functional requirements) with an ability to interrogate and interpret technical information alongside understanding business process and strategy

• Continuous Improvement, with a lean mindset/capability to increase business efficiency


As a member of the business analysis team, you will directly contribute to outperformance of the CIO function. You will be comfortable working in both agile and waterfall operating models and will support the transition from project to value stream delivery.


You will have an excellent working knowledge of business analysis, with good analytical and problem-solving skills, as well as a mix of business and technical aptitude along with strong leadership skills.


You will support to coordinate efforts across initiatives to prevent gaps or wasted effort. You will spend a large portion of your time working with users to understand their requirements and then documenting them for use by a range of internal colleagues and external suppliers.


You will have in-depth knowledge of one or more business areas and related processes (including which applications are used to support them) and will use your communication and analytical skills to enable a full understanding of the business's current and future IT solution needs.


Key Accountabilities:

  • Requirement elicitation – the ability to discover, analyse, and document requirements from stakeholders using a variety of methods
  • Requirement analysis – the ability to understand requirements and trace them back to business outcomes
  • Business architecture/Service design – the ability to discover and document the end-to-end architecture of a process or system and the relationships between them
  • System expertise – the ability to analyse and understand both data and technology solutions at a detailed level to interpret and interrogate technical requirements such as APIs and data migration
  • Technical translation – the ability to identify system enhancements, determine development impact demonstrating knowledge in systems, processes, and data
  • Technical issues – the ability to provide hands on support and subject matter expertise, as needed to identify, contain, and correct system deficiencies
  • Provide technical expertise to drive value in delivery teams and supporting the BA team as a function
  • Work with initiative managers to plan initiatives and work streams and agree BA deliverables.
  • Provide updates and reports on the progress of BA work.
  • Coach and train BA colleagues.
  • Provide subject matter expertise on feasibility of initiatives and proposed solutions.
  • Adhere to CoE standards and take a lead on reviewing and updating those standards.
  • Discretionary line management responsibilities for analysts when required.


Skills and Qualifications:

  • Advanced knowledge & application of business analysis frameworks, methodologies & processes.
  • Ability to train others in the use of analytical tools & methodologies.
  • Considered as an subject matter expert in at least one domain/Business area. Contributor to BA Competency practice.
  • Coach to Junior BAs and BAs.
  • May lead a small squad of analysts working across large or complex initiatives
