We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Chief Engineer to lead the engineering team and ensure the smooth functioning of all technical operations for pre-opening.


Merlis Coimbatore is an elegant new luxury hotel set amidst 4 acres of serene landscapes, ideally located just 2 kilometers from Coimbatore International Airport. The hotel features 142 meticulously designed rooms, including five premium dining outlets, and an array of world-class facilities, including two grand ballrooms, a spacious banquet lawn, six well equipped meeting rooms. For relaxation and wellness, guests can enjoy a state-of-the-art health club featuring a spa, gym, and swimming pool. As the Chief Engineer, you will play a critical role in the pre-opening phase and beyond, ensuring that all systems, equipment, and infrastructure are in peak condition. From planning and setup to operational excellence, you will lead our engineering team to create a safe, efficient, and sustainable environment for guests and staff.


Pre-Opening Planning and Setup

Facility Setup: Oversee the installation, commissioning, and testing of systems, including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, elevators, and fire safety.

Equipment Procurement: Select and procure tools, machinery, and spare parts necessary for maintenance and operations.

Blueprint Review: Analyze architectural and engineering plans to ensure that infrastructure aligns with operational requirements.

Vendor Coordination: Collaborate with contractors and suppliers to ensure timely and quality delivery of services and equipment.


Recruitment and Team Development

Hiring Staff: Recruit a team of skilled technicians, electricians, and maintenance staff for the engineering department.

Training: Provide technical training to the team to familiarize them with hotel systems and safety protocols.

Team Leadership: Establish a collaborative and efficient working environment within the department.


Preventive Maintenance Planning

Maintenance Schedules: Develop and implement preventive maintenance plans for all equipment and systems.

Inspection Protocols: Create checklists and inspection routines to ensure operational readiness before opening day.

Record Keeping: Establish systems to track maintenance activities, warranties, and equipment lifecycle.


Compliance and Safety

Regulatory Adherence: Ensure that all engineering operations comply with local building codes, fire safety standards, and environmental regulations.

Emergency Systems: Test and certify emergency systems, such as fire alarms, sprinklers, and backup generators.

Workplace Safety: Implement health and safety protocols for the engineering team and overall property.


Operational Support

Energy Management: Develop energy-efficient strategies and monitor utility consumption to optimize costs.

Troubleshooting: Address and resolve technical issues during trial runs and soft openings.

Facility Readiness: Ensure that all public areas, guest rooms, and back-of-house facilities are fully functional and meet brand standards before the opening.


Budget and Cost Management

Budget Preparation: Assist in creating the pre-opening and operational engineering budgets.

Cost Control: Monitor expenses related to maintenance, repairs, and utilities to ensure budget compliance.

Vendor Negotiations: Work with suppliers and service providers to secure cost-effective solutions without compromising quality.


Sustainability Initiatives

Green Practices: Implement environmentally friendly practices, such as energy-saving equipment and waste management systems.

Sustainable Sourcing: Evaluate and recommend sustainable materials and resources for operations.


Collaboration with Other Departments

Interdepartmental Coordination: Work closely with the pre-opening team, General Manager, and other department heads to align engineering efforts with overall hotel goals.

Guest Experience Support: Ensure technical systems enhance the guest experience, such as seamless room automation or climate control.

Event Readiness: Provide technical support for events and functions hosted during the pre-opening phase.


Emergency Preparedness

Crisis Management Plans: Develop procedures to handle technical emergencies, such as power outages, water leaks, or equipment failures.

Response Training: Train staff on how to respond to and mitigate technical incidents.


Post-Opening Transition

Operational Handover: Ensure all systems and protocols are seamlessly transitioned from pre-opening to operational mode.

Performance Review: Evaluate the effectiveness of the engineering setup and make adjustments as needed.

Continuous Improvement: Implement ongoing improvements to enhance efficiency, safety, and sustainability.
