ESL Steel Limited is poising towards debottlenecking of its operations & has expansion plans in Jharkhand state. We are in the process of expanding in 2 phases (First phase is 1.5 MT to 3 MT) Brown field project and from 3 MT to 10 MT Green Field Project, to ensure Vedanta’s strong footprint in steel business.


Position : Head Raw Material

Experience : 15+ years

Qualification : B.E / B. Tech in any stream/ Any Graduate + MBA


Roles & Responsibilities:


  • Develop and implement procurement strategies for raw materials, aligning them with the organization's production needs and cost objectives.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, environmental standards, and safety regulations governing the sourcing, handling, and transportation of raw materials.
  • Build and manage relationships with raw material suppliers, collaborating to optimize value, quality, and reliability.
  • Identify reliable suppliers and negotiate contracts for the procurement of raw materials, considering factors such as pricing, quality, delivery schedules, and supply chain resilience.
  • Monitor market trends, global supply dynamics, and regulatory developments to anticipate changes in raw material availability and pricing.
  • Oversee the management of raw material inventory levels to ensure adequate stock availability while minimizing excess inventory holding costs.
  • Implement inventory control measures, such as just-in-time (JIT) inventory management, to optimize inventory turnover and reduce carrying costs.
  • Establish and enforce quality standards for incoming raw materials, including specifications for chemical composition, size, moisture content, and impurities.
  • Collaborate with Quality Control teams to conduct inspections and tests on raw materials to verify compliance with quality standards and specifications.
  • Implement corrective actions and quality improvement initiatives to address deviations and ensure consistent material quality.
  • Collaborate with Production and Process Engineering teams to optimize raw material utilization and processing parameters for maximum efficiency and product quality.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements, cost reduction, and waste minimization through the selection of alternative raw materials or process modifications.
  • Conduct regular supplier performance reviews and assessments to evaluate supplier capabilities, reliability, and adherence to contractual obligations.
  • Address supplier issues, disputes, and non-conformances in a timely manner to maintain smooth operations and minimize disruptions.
  • Implement measures to mitigate risks related to regulatory compliance, such as conducting due diligence on suppliers and maintaining documentation of compliance activities.
  • Coordinate with regulatory authorities and internal stakeholders to address compliance issues and implement corrective actions.
