About the Role
We are seeking a Design Engineer III specializing in Airframe Design. This role demands deep expertise in aerospace design, with a particular focus on airframe structures for UAVs. The successful candidate will lead the design and development of airframes for various UAV configurations, ensuring optimal performance, structural integrity, and compliance with industry standards. This individual will also mentor junior engineers and collaborate with cross-functional teams to advance our innovative drone technologies.

Responsibilities
  • Lead the design and development of UAV airframes with an emphasis on both fixed-wing and VTOL (Vertical Take-Off and Landing) configurations.
  • Conducted comprehensive structural analysis and ensured airframe designs met aerospace safety, performance, and weight requirements.
  • Perform aerodynamic analysis and simulations, ensuring airframe designs meet required performance parameters.
  • Use CAD software (Fusion 360, SolidWorks) for the detailed design of airframe structures, creating models, assemblies, and engineering drawings.
  • Lead material selection for airframes, ensuring optimal balance between weight, strength, and durability.
  • Ensure compliance with aerospace industry standards, regulations, and airworthiness guidelines.
  • Conduct Finite Element Analysis and other structural testing to validate airframe integrity under various load conditions.
  • Collaborate closely with systems, electronics, and propulsion teams to integrate airframe designs into complete UAV systems.
  • Guide Junior Engineers, providing technical direction and ensuring best practices in design and development are followed.
  • Maintain detailed documentation of design processes, changes, calculations, and testing outcomes.
  • Stay updated with the latest technologies and trends in aerospace and UAV airframe design.

Qualifications
  • B.Tech/M.Tech in Aerospace/Aeronautical Engineering or equivalent.
  • 5+ years of experience in UAV or airframe design and development, including hands-on experience with CAD tools like Fusion 360, SolidWorks, and other design/simulation software.
  • Proven track record of designing airframes for both fixed-wing and VTOL UAVs.
  • Strong knowledge of aerodynamics, structural mechanics, and materials science.
  • Experience with FEA, CFD, and relevant simulation tools.
  • Thorough understanding of airframe load cases, safety factors, and failure modes.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience in mentoring or leading design teams.
  • Familiarity with aerospace standards and certifications.
