The Senior Server Manager is responsible for overseeing the planning, deployment, and management of server infrastructure across both on-premises data centers and cloud environments. This role ensures the availability, performance, and security of all server systems, while leading a team of engineers and collaborating with stakeholders to support business needs through scalable and reliable infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities:

Server Infrastructure Management:

  • Manage and maintain server infrastructure, including both on-premises data centers and cloud-based systems (AWS, Azure).
  • Ensure high availability, performance, and scalability of server environments to meet business and technical requirements.
  • Oversee the installation, configuration, and maintenance of physical and virtual servers, ensuring they are optimized for both workloads and resource efficiency.


Cloud Management:

  • Lead the strategy, deployment, and management of cloud infrastructure, ensuring alignment with business objectives.
  • Optimize cloud services to ensure cost-effective use of resources while maintaining performance and security.
  • Manage cloud migration projects and hybrid environments, ensuring seamless integration between on-premises and cloud systems.


Team Leadership:

  • Lead, mentor, and manage a team of system engineers and administrators responsible for the operation of server infrastructure.
  • Foster a culture of continuous learning, keeping the team updated with new technologies and industry trends.
  • Delegate tasks and manage project priorities to ensure the timely completion of initiatives.


Server Security and Compliance:

  • Implement and maintain security policies and procedures to protect server environments from unauthorized access, vulnerabilities, and threats.
  • Collaborate with security teams to ensure that all server infrastructure meets security audit requirements and best practices.


Monitoring and Performance Optimization:

  • Oversee the monitoring and management of server performance, ensuring optimal operation across both on-premises and cloud environments.
  • Develop strategies for capacity planning, resource optimization, and cost management in server infrastructure.
  • Implement performance tuning and troubleshooting measures to resolve issues related to servers, networks, and applications.


Disaster Recovery and Backup Management:

  • Develop and manage disaster recovery (DR) and business continuity plans for both on-premises and cloud systems.
  • Implement and manage backup solutions to ensure data integrity and availability in case of system failures or data loss.
  • Regularly test and refine DR plans to ensure they can be executed effectively when needed.


Vendor and Partner Management:

  • Manage relationships with hardware, software, and cloud service providers to ensure service levels are maintained.
  • Negotiate contracts, renewals, and pricing with vendors, ensuring the organization gets value for money.
  • Collaborate with vendors on troubleshooting, system upgrades, and patch management.


Project Management and Strategic Planning:

  • Lead and oversee server infrastructure projects, including system upgrades, migrations, and new implementations.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders across the organization to understand business requirements and translate them into technical solutions.
  • Develop and maintain a roadmap for server infrastructure growth and improvements.


Cost Management:

  • Develop and manage the budget for on-premises and cloud server infrastructure.
  • Monitor and control infrastructure costs, including hardware, licensing, and cloud service fees.
  • Optimize cloud spending through effective use of cloud management platforms and cost-saving strategies.


Documentation and Reporting:

  • Ensure that all server infrastructure components (both on-premises and cloud) are well-documented, including network diagrams, configuration settings, and operational procedures.
  • Provide regular reports on server performance, capacity, and system health to leadership teams.
  • Maintain accurate documentation for disaster recovery and security audits.


Required Skills & Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.

Experience: 10 to 15 years of experience in server administration and management, with at least 5 years in a leadership or managerial role.

Technical Expertise:

Strong experience with both on-premises server environments (Windows, Linux) and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure).

Deep understanding of virtualization (VMware, Hyper-V)

Proficiency in server security, networking, storage management, and disaster recovery planning.

Leadership Skills: Experience managing and developing technical teams, with the ability to foster collaboration and performance.

Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interact with technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Problem Solving: Excellent analytical skills, with the ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex server and infrastructure issues.


Preferred Certifications:

  • Cloud Certifications (AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator)
  • VMware Certified Professional (VCP) or similar virtualization certifications.
  • Microsoft Certified: Windows Server Hybrid Administrator.
  • ITIL Foundation or higher certification.
