Manufacturing Engineer
Job Summary:
The Manufacturing Engineer will support the production and manufacturing processes for aerospace components, ensuring products meet quality, cost, and delivery targets. This role requires expertise in engineering principles, a deep understanding of aerospace manufacturing processes, and the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams to improve product designs, optimize production efficiency, and maintain compliance with industry standards.
Responsibilities:
- Identify manufacturing needs for new product development.
- Develop, implement, and optimize manufacturing processes for aerospace components, ensuring adherence to engineering designs and specifications.
- Work closely with design engineers to review new product designs for manufacturability, providing feedback on material selection, assembly processes, and tolerance requirements.
- Implement and monitor quality assurance protocols, ensuring compliance with aerospace industry standards (e.g., AS9100, FAA regulations) and customer specifications.
- Create and maintain detailed process documentation, including work instructions, process flow diagrams, and standard operating procedures (SOPs). Provide regular reports on production metrics and performance.
- Investigate production issues, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
- Work closely with production teams, quality control, supply chain, and project managers to ensure smooth and efficient operations.
- Generate ideas for fixtures and assembly jigs.
- Support the tender process for equipment to ensure the best quality for best price.
- Carry out FMEAs, (Failure Mode Effects Analysis) process documentation and implement improvements.
- Time to time follow up with vendors about manufacturing components.
Skills required
Technical Skills
- Strong understanding of aerospace materials, processes, and technologies.
- Good understanding of manufacturing processes including turning, milling, EDM, forming, bending, rolling, moulding, surface finishing and welding processes.
- Proficient in CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, CATIA, SolidWorks) and CAM software.
- Knowledge of aerospace quality standards (AS9100, NADCAP, etc.).
- Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and continuous improvement methodologies.
- Strong problem-solving, analytical, and troubleshooting skills.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to interact with cross-functional teams.
