Responsibilities:
1. Strategic Leadership: Provide visionaryleadership for the Optometry department setting strategic goals andobjectives in alignment with the universitys mission andvision.
2. Academic Excellence:Oversee the development and delivery of highquality academicprograms in Optometry ensuring adherence to accreditation standardsand promoting excellence in teaching research and clinicalpractice.
3. Curriculum Development:Lead the design review and enhancement of the Optometry curriculumto meet industry trends technological advancements and the evolvingneeds of students and stakeholders.
4. FacultyManagement: Recruit develop and retain a diverse team offaculty members fostering a culture of innovation collaboration andcontinuous professional growth.
5. StudentSuccess: Implement strategies to support student successand retention providing mentorship guidance and resources toenhance the learning experience and promote academicachievement.
6. Clinical PracticeOversight: Oversee the operation and management ofclinical facilities and practices affiliated with the Optometrydepartment ensuring the delivery of highquality patient care andservices.
7. Research andScholarship: Promote a culture of research andscholarship within the Optometry department supporting faculty andstudents in conducting innovative research projects anddisseminating findings through publications andpresentations.
8. CommunityEngagement: Foster partnerships and collaborations withexternal stakeholders including healthcare organizations industrypartners and community agencies to enhance experiential learningopportunities research collaborations and outreachinitiatives.
9. Accreditation andCompliance: Ensure compliance with regulatoryrequirements and accreditation standards relevant to Optometryeducation and clinical practice maintaining documentation andfacilitating accreditation reviews as needed.
10. Budget and Resource Management: Develop andmanage departmental budgets allocating resources effectively tosupport academic programs research activities and clinicaloperations.
11. ProfessionalDevelopment: Stay abreast of developments in the field ofOptometry participating in professional organizations attendingconferences and pursuing opportunities for professional developmentto enhance departmental effectiveness and expertise.
12. Collaborative Leadership: Collaborate withother departments schools and units within the university topromote interdisciplinary research education and clinicalinitiatives that advance the universitys mission and strategicpriorities.
Requirements:
Doctor of Optometry(OD) degree from an accredited institution; advanced degree (e.g.PhD) preferred. Knowledge of Vision examination RefractionSubjective and objective Slit lampexamination Low vision evaluation Contact lens fitting Binocular vision evaluation Diagnostic department and instruments Demonstrated leadership experience in academic administrationpreferably in a higher education setting.
Proven trackrecord of excellence in teaching research and/or clinical practicein Optometry.
Strong interpersonal communication andorganizational skills.
Ability to effectively lead andmanage faculty staff and resources to achieve departmental goalsand objectives.
Commitment to diversity equity andinclusion in education and clinical practice.
Familiarity with accreditation standards and regulatoryrequirements relevant to Optometry education and clinicalpractice.
