Job Summary: The Physics Lecturer is responsible for delivering high-quality instruction in physics courses at the undergraduate and/or graduate level. This role involves preparing and delivering lectures, creating and grading assessments, advising students, and contributing to the academic community through research, committee work, and other activities.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Teaching:

    • Develop and deliver engaging lectures and laboratory sessions in physics.
    • Prepare course materials, including syllabi, homework assignments, and exams.
    • Utilize a variety of teaching methods and instructional technologies to enhance student learning.
    • Maintain regular office hours to provide academic support and advising to students.
  2. Curriculum Development:

    • Design and update course content to reflect current developments in the field of physics.
    • Collaborate with colleagues to improve and standardize curriculum across the department.
    • Integrate research findings and real-world applications into the curriculum.
  3. Assessment and Evaluation:

    • Create, administer, and grade exams, quizzes, and other assessments to evaluate student performance.
    • Provide timely and constructive feedback to students on their academic progress.
    • Maintain accurate records of student grades and attendance.
  4. Research and Scholarly Activities:

    • Conduct original research in a specific area of physics.
    • Publish research findings in reputable scientific journals.
    • Present research at academic conferences and seminars.
    • Seek and secure funding for research projects through grants and other sources.
  5. Student Advising and Mentoring:

    • Advise students on academic and career planning.
    • Mentor students in research projects and guide them in developing their scientific skills.
    • Support student organizations and extracurricular activities related to physics.
  6. Service to the Institution:

    • Participate in departmental meetings and contribute to curriculum and policy development.
    • Serve on academic and administrative committees.
    • Engage in community outreach and promote the physics program through various initiatives.
  7. Professional Development:

    • Stay current with advancements in the field of physics and education.
    • Attend professional development workshops, conferences, and training sessions.
    • Engage in continuous learning to enhance teaching and research skills.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Ph.D. in Physics or a closely related field.
  • Experience: Prior teaching experience at the college or university level is preferred. Experience in conducting and publishing research is also desirable.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in using laboratory equipment and scientific software. Familiarity with online teaching platforms and instructional technologies.
  • Soft Skills: Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to explain complex concepts in a clear and understandable manner. Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
  • Certifications: None required, but additional certifications related to teaching or specific areas of physics can be beneficial.

Working Conditions:

  • The role involves working in classroom, laboratory, and office environments.
  • May require standing for long periods while teaching and conducting experiments.
  • Occasional evening or weekend hours may be needed for special events or research activities.

Reports To: Department Chair or Dean of Faculty

Salary: Commensurate with experience and qualifications.
