Our Application Development teams use their expertise in programming languages and software design to develop next-generation technology. They are responsible for developing the applications which track and move up to 38 million packages in a single day (4.7 billion annually). This team works closely with all of our customers to build innovative technologies that are customized to drive our business and provide the ultimate customer experience. As a member of the applications development family, you will help UPS grow and provide valuable services across the globe.

About this role:

The Senior Applications Developer provides input and support for, and performs full systems life cycle management activities (e.g., analyses, technical requirements, design, coding, testing, implementation of systems and applications software, etc.). He/She participates in component and data architecture design, technology planning, and testing for Applications Development (AD) initiatives to meet business requirements. This position provides input to applications development project plans and integrations. He/She collaborates with teams and supports emerging technologies to ensure effective communication and achievement of objectives. The Senior Applications Developer provides knowledge and support for applications development, integration, and maintenance. He/She provides input to department and project teams on decisions supporting projects.

This position is a senior technical role with the Worldport Platform Engineering team. Worldport Platform Engineering works with application development teams to provide patch management, certificates management, and hardware/operating system obsolescence for systems in Worldport, the UPS all-points air hub based in Louisville, Kentucky. WP Platform Engineering works with infrastructure groups in New Jersey to coordinate platform maintenance upgrades for Worldport systems. WP Platform Engineering also acts as systems integrators for vendor written/supported applications in the hub. This position will be responsible for coordinating with various corporate infrastructure teams to ensure reliable platform maintenance and planning for hardware/platform upgrades. The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting application teams with the build process for new servers, scheduling contractor work, tracking certificates, and working with external vendors.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Experience supporting Windows OS on servers and workstations
  • Knowledge of the Linux OS
  • Knowledge of Windows OS Build process
  • Some scripting experience in bash, perl, powershell, or C#
  • Troubleshooting background and proficiency in root cause analysis
  • Basic familiarity with SSL/TLS certificate management for IIS and Apache
  • Familiarity with Desired State management of infrastructure environments
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Collaboration
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related discipline, or equivalent education and work experience

The ideal candidate will also have:

  • Advanced scripting experience and/or application development background
  • Working knowledge of clustering on Linux and Windows platforms
  • Working knowledge of LDAP and Active Directory
  • Working knowledge of Oracle and SQL databases
  • Working knowledge of public/private cryptographic techniques
