Senior Development Manager, South Asia

New Delhi, India CDP Full time

Job Purpose and Background Summary

As a non-profit CDP relies on income through philanthropic and institutional funding. As a (Senior) Development Manager in CDP’s global Development Team, you will play a leading role in building and delivering our strategy for engaging with governments, multilateral institutions, philanthropists and corporate donors to grow our funding portfolio in the South Asia & Asia-Pacific region. You’ll be the kind of person who gets out from behind your desk to meet people, influence and achieve long lasting, mutually beneficial relationships. You will work with colleagues to conceptualize and develop winning tenders and proposals that will fund cutting-edge work to mitigate climate change and reverse biodiversity loss. As with any expanding organization there are challenges – you’ll need to be determined, tenacious and focused on solutions.

As the regional lead for the Development team, you will play a key role in building relationships with and securing funding from key donors both based in and providing funding to the region, covering India, South-East Asia, Hong Kong, Australia and New Zealand. This will include engagement with a wide variety of stakeholders, including national governments, development agencies (headquarter- and embassy-level), multilateral agencies, philanthropists and corporate donors.

About CDP

CDP is a not-for-profit charity that runs the global disclosure system for investors, companies, cities, states and regions to manage their environmental impacts. The world’s economy looks to CDP as the gold standard of environmental reporting with the richest and most comprehensive dataset on corporate and city action.

CDP’s cascading global impact is powered by our tight-knit team of smart, savvy, curious and commit-ted individuals, who share a common passion for creating a sustainable future. It is our people who make our work possible. And we provide our people with a working environment that empowers each individual to reach their full potential: one that is committed to equity; one that provides equal access for growth and development; and one that supports everyone throughout the full employee life cycle.

About the Institutional Funding Team

Our seven-member team is responsible for generating funding leads from governments and multi-laterals and seeing them through to contract signature. We work closely with the Philanthropy and Corporate Funding teams to manage a comprehensive funding pipeline. We already have a strong track-record delivering annual seven-figure income targets from a wide range of donors including the UK, US, Norwegian, Dutch and Swiss Governments and the European Commission. We have ambitious plans to triple our income in the coming years, and we are specifically seeking someone to join our team to catalyze our fundraising work across the Asia-Pacific region.

As the Development lead within the region, you will need to work flexibly. As well as a core focus on government and multilateral funders, your work will include supporting engagement opportunities with philanthropic and corporate donors and ensuring that our existing donor-funded project portfolio in the region is managed well, to protect our relationships with funders. Working with the leadership team and externally facing teams across the region, you will identify key funding prospects for CDP, ensuring that we capitalize on potential opportunities and secure the right funding to support our strategy.

Key responsibilities include:

· Develop an excellent knowledge of CDP’s work, liaise with colleagues to prepare and present high-quality information such as tailored presentations and proposals for donors.

· Build and maintain a network of funding leads across India, South-East Asia, Hong Kong, Australia and New Zealand, working with staff in the region and the global Development team.

· Develop a pipeline of concepts and proposals to resource CDP’s strategy, including growing CDP’s ODA funding in the region.

· Support the development of tenders and proposals, working with colleagues from Disclosure, Capital Markets, Policy, Thought Leadership, Finance, Grants Management, Project Management, and Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning teams.

· Support account management for key institutional donor relationships across the Asia-Pacific region: maintaining oversight of the project portfolio and coordinating with internal stakeholders and external stakeholders to manage and grow relationships with key funders.

· Work with other teams, in the region and globally, to develop and implement efficient, effective processes to improve fundraising, funder on-boarding and project lifecycle management.

You will have the following skills and experience:

Essential criteria:

· Experience working with funders or other relevant stakeholders within the region (India, South-East Asia, Hong Kong, Australia or New Zealand), bringing an existing network or a proven ability to build one.

· Experience developing tenders or funding proposals to governments, multi-laterals, trusts, foundations or corporate donors, including ODA funders of the region.

· Some familiarity with results frameworks and theories of change, and able to support their development.

· Experience in supporting donor relationship management, including research, analysis, engagement, presentation, and influence skills.

· Strong interpersonal skills, able to represent CDP’s interests in donor and partner negotiations and persuade stakeholders of the importance of our mission.

· Organized and methodical approach to plan and deliver against a varied workload, managing competing priorities and to strict deadlines.

Desirable criteria

· Experience in the fields of climate change mitigation, deforestation, water security, environment and biodiversity, capital markets, trade, data or economic development.

· Experience leading commercial tenders, impact bonds, blended finance and other innovative and complex funding proposals.

· Proven track record of securing grant or contract income at the six-figure level.

· Experience supporting the development of income generation strategies or performing against financial targets.

· Additional languages (beyond English) are an advantage.

This is a full-time, permanent role based in CDP’s Singapore office. The role is a member of the global Institutional Funding team and will report to the Head of Institutional Funding (currently based in Berlin). Part-time applications or other flexible working requests will be considered. Interested applicants must be eligible to work legally in Singapore. We cannot sponsor for this role.

Salary and benefits: We offer a competitive salary, as well as holidays and benefits in accordance with local regulations. Final offer amount depends on multiple factors such as candidate's experience and expertise, geographic location, total compensation, and market data.
