Your Role

The STET – Sr Engineering Manager is part of Global Organization that delivers impact to multiple businesses within Philips.

The role manages a portfolio of high impact, complex transfer and lifecycle management projects within an assigned business that enables Philips to reduce risk, improve Quality, profitability, align with Philips’ strategic supply base and optimize supply chain flexibility. The primary function within this role is to provide functional leadership for a HW Engineering Team and thereby drive the department’s objectives, policies, processes and budgets on short and long term, makes sure that the organization can meet the objectives and ensures that the roles and responsibilities are put in place.

This role will manage a team of 10+ mechanical and electrical engineers.

As a senior member within this team, the STET Engineering Manager is accountable for driving technical excellence within said projects to ensure first-time-right quality.

Manager Responsibilities:

Formulates and implements long-term vision/direction/strategy: steering the group to add maximum value to the business in the future. Content-wise inspires and contributes to cross-organizational strategy and project teams working on innovation themes and breakthroughs.

Ensures appropriate personnel management practices regarding recruitment and selection, adequate staffing, remuneration, performance appraisals, education and training, and management development policy.

Ensures an engaged, innovative, and inspiring working environment in the department by motivating, challenging, and coaching the department 's employees towards growth, manages and optimizes the innovative climate, stimulating entrepreneurship and driving engagement

Lead and manage engineering teams who works cross-functionally with various Business Segments, Supply Chain, Procurement, Finance, Regulatory, and Business Development, with a focus on total customer solutions across a wide range of clinical applications, a diverse set of geographies.

Is co-responsible for achieving operational plans, collaborates with Project Managers/Leaders and ensures the optimal allocation of personnel to the projects and effective project management, ensure excellent project execution by constantly optimizing project management practices in the department to exceed customer expectations.

Delegates, coaches and verify the implementation by Designers/Engineers.

Work closely with cross functional stakeholders and guide the team to successful project release and manage any escalations.

Critical accountability is in guiding the team at a technical and project management level to ensure project KPIs are met.

Cooperates with relevant parties outside of the department. Works across the borders of the own department – e.g. formulate strategies or project proposals across department borders, cooperating with other department heads, programs and the business. Establishes a network with relevant players; scientific relations outside of the department and with the business - on all topics, and actively using this network to obtain input on technological developments, identifying trends and opportunities.

Education/Skills:

Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering.

Master’s degree preferred.

15+ years’ experience in a high-tech industry with a focus on engineering & project management. Experience in supply chain and/or procurement related function is highly desirable.

7+ years of managing direct reports

PMP or Six Sigma certification highly desired

Qualification Profile:

Experience in design cycle of complex electro-mechanical systems.

Strong project-management skills/experience

Proven experience in managing a team of engineers

Excellent presentation, communication and negotiation skills, across functions and organizational layers; proven ability to manage relationships at all org levels.

Demonstrated ability to work in a complex/global/matrix environment.

Experience with global supplier management (technical or project based); knowledge of Supply management strategies and tools is highly desirable.

Your Team’s Responsibilities:

Accountable for resolving all technical challenges during productivity and lifecycle projects, which includes resolving product specification challenges, qualification of alternate design/ components, reverse engineering, driving design review workshops, address EOL/AOS concerns etc.

Electronic component obsolescence management, Reactive and Proactive obsolescence management, Redesign for cost reduction and improved reliability, Redesign for obsolescence mitigation, Failure, and root cause analysis, Alternate component sourcing, limited software release support, and regulatory updates are common sustaining activities

Build the Productivity/Value engineering funnel, manage the business case and is a business partner focused on maximization of the added value for the business.

Support existing systems in production including investigating root cause of product issues found in manufacturing and early life customer systems and implement product design solutions to improve manufacturability and prevent recurrence of defects.

Engage with stake holders and drive design and development activities and be responsible for design decisions that are critical for the product to meet form, fit and function requirements.

Write Module level requirements document capturing mechanical, electrical, and other functional requirements and oversee all design and development activities of the modules.

Work with suppliers to design equivalent modules that meet system level requirements

Responsible to ensure product requirements are fully defined to enhance quality through transfer projects, this would involve reverse engineering as needed.

Full responsibility to achieve critical KPIs for QUALITY and productivity targets that are tied to the annual business plans.

Perform detailed cost analysis of material and manufacturing processes to ensure that high quality products are delivered at optimum cost from target suppliers.

Schematic, Assembly drawing and Bill of materials, Test protocols which includes Module Verification plan & report. Execute module verification testing and log results. Perform release activities includes DVR, eMatrix DHF update and write Memo’s as needed.

Follow Philips QMS guidelines and update design history files per latest standard template

Project domain will include sheet metal, plastics, power supply, batteries, PCBs, Electronic enclosures etc.
