Design Appraisal Specialist

Role Purpose

Assess the design, manufacture and in-service aspects of engineering assets (specifically pressure equipment and pressure systems), using defined Codes, Standards, specifications, procedures and knowledge and experience appropriate for routine situations.

Key responsibilities

Perform design assessments of pressure equipment and pressure systems according to agreed specifications and standards. Perform complex assessments, provide specialist advice/solution and training to internal/external clients, research or development work within agreed parameters including budget constraints and contractual requirements. Produce the deliverable within the agreed parameters in an appropriate format and take responsibility to review and monitor other employees' work as requested. Assess/recommend the time/value of work to be undertaken for an external client within an agreed fee/cost structure within the commercial aspect of the contract, and issue quotations up to an agreed limit and LRQA’s standard terms and conditions ( commercial notice). Discuss/present the deliverable with internal/external client at a senior level and be able to suggest alternative solutions where appropriate. Conduct activities in line with internal procedures, accreditation schemes, legislation and industry standards. Contribute to internal/external client management as appropriate by acting as point of contact to effectively manage client and LRQA relationships.

Technical / Professional Qualifications / Requirements

Shall possess a relevant bachelor's degree from a recognised university or equivalent within the relevant field of engineering. An additional higher tertiary degree masters may is preferable. Preferably a qualified member of a recognised professional body , , , ; Likely to be working towards Chartered/Professional Engineer. Shall possess sufficient relevant previous working experience to demonstrate comprehensive understanding of the relevant specialist requirements, knowledge and application. Likely to have to years relevant working experience. Experience in design /appraisal of pressure vessels, heat exchangers, boilers, piping and tanks. Essential to have knowledge of application of appropriate national/international standards ASME, EN, PD, AS , IBR. Proficiency in the use of calculation software PVELITE, COMPRESS etc Preferably working knowledge in the use of FEA software (ANSYS) and knowledge of design by analysis requirements. Exposure to piping flexibility analysis and CAESAR software is preferred. Knowledge of regulatory requirements such as PED, DOSH -Malaysia, MOM-Singapore requirements preferred. Proficiency in English language commensurate with the work (both written and verbal)
