Overview

The Virtualization Core Platform team is looking for a talented, motivated leader to work in core virtualization technology areas to help drive the development of the next generation of our platform. We are looking for enthusiastic candidates who can learn quickly, have dependable design skills, and have the proven ability to build and manage a dynamic team.Have you used Hyper-V today? Have you used Windows 11 today?Millions of users interact with Hyper-V daily. Hyper-V is the backbone of the cloud and nearly all of Microsoft's online properties, including Azure, are running on Hyper-V. That's millions of virtual machines hosting the services that people use every day.

Qualifications

Required qualifications:

Required/Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++ OR equivalent experience 2 + years' experience with hypervisors, kernel mode programming, containers, and/or security or equivalent experience

Preferred qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 10+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, Rust OR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, Rust OR equivalent experience 4+ years people management experience Experience coding, debugging, testing, and problem solving skills Proven communication and collaboration skills Ability to work on a large codebase and willing to take on a wide variety of challenges Reliable understanding of systems software and hardware/software interaction A track record of solid results across multiple ship cycles Experience with hypervisors, kernel mode programming, containers, and/or security Thorough understanding of modern computer architectures found in desktop PCs and servers

The ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter

As a Principal Software Engineer Lead, you'll be responsible for leading a team of engineers working on components of Microsoft's virtualization platform. Your work will touch all aspects of low-level CPU, memory, and device virtualization. You'll be working closely with all of Microsoft's key silicon partners to enable new hardware features and push the boundaries of performance, reliability, security, and more.
