Job Description

The Big Picture: 

Howden is a global engineering business who focus on providing clients with industrial products that help multiple sectors improve their everyday processes. Howden’s core focus is on providing quality solutions for air and gas handling, and have over a century of experience in doing so.

The main responsibility of this role is to inspect customer rotational equipment, perform service jobs and troubleshoot and assist with fault diagnosis during breakdown or emergency situations. Also advise client and / or construction company on best methods of constructing and commissioning Howden supplied equipment (Axial Fans / Centrifugal Fans & Blowers).

What needs to be done?

Provide technical assistance to customers with installation, overhaul, maintenance and commissioning of Howden manufactured equipment in site locations throughout the world.Attend pre-commissioning or outage planning meetings when required in order to assist the client and/or construction company with their planning and manpower/resource requirements.Recommend improvements / changes to the construction program where applicable.Report site progress to the relevant Project Manager and advise of any problems or issues which may be causing delays on site.Liaise with the Design Engineer or Engineering Manager when technical guidance or site information is required.Ensure that site activities follow strict health, welfare, safety, quality control and environmental policies and procedures and maintain Howden standards to an exceptionally high level. Take all reasonable care for your own personal health and safety, as well as for that of everyone who may be affected by your actions in workshop/sites.Liaise and co-operate with company management with regards to the current health and safety legislation and obligations within the location and area where you perform your dutiesMonitor hours worked and ensure client is in agreement with this so that there are no disputes over hours claimed.Report any shortages or manufacturing defects to the Project Manager so that an NC can be raised.Assist with producing method statements and risk assessments on site.Compile a formal weekly / daily report to ensure that progress is reported to the Project Manager and client.Review the requirement for further TA visits in the future so plans can be put in place.Participate in open package inspections when requested to ensure that all items on packing lists have been delivered and are stored in line with Howden instructions.Achieve sales targets and propose ideas to grow business

What do you need to bring? Required skills, knowledge & behaviours

Mechanical Engineer – Degree or DiplomaRotational equipment technical knowledge and plant/equipment maintenance knowledgeWith minimum 5 years of work experience on Axial Fans, Centrifugal Fans & Blowers installed in Cement, Steel & Mining, oil & gas, General Industry, chemical & Water & Water Waste industries.Ability to undertake performance tests of fans would be advantageousShould possess critical skills like: vibration analysis, mechanical maintenance, adjustments, clearance control, laser alignment, on-site balancing.Competent using Microsoft Office Software.Able to write detailed reports with technical content.Able to understand engineering drawings.Able to communicate well at all levels within an organisation (verbally and in writing) and particularly in technical matters.Able to demonstrate experience in solving complex issues logically in the field.Commitment and focus to work safely for yourself and others is unwaveringAbility and willingness to travel locally and globally, often only with short notice for extended period

Preferred skills, knowledge & behaviours

Practical experience in fitting and erecting heavy rotating plant and equipment (Axial Fans, Centrifugal Fans & Blowers)Practical experience with testing and commissioning.Reasonable expertise in electrical & instrumentationExperience on vibration analysis.Develop strong customer and Howden internal relationshipsCommunication under pressure and sometimes under difficult circumstances.Innovate and create opportunities to improve program performance and timescales.Tolerate rapidly changing environment and circumstances.Dealing with different nationalities and cultures, sometimes on a single site.Job holder will be expected to make decisions on construction standards based on the erection manuals provided and guidance provided by the Project Manager or Design Engineer.Must keep to company policies and procedures.Must monitor health, welfare, safety and environmental issues at all times whilst overseas and report any concerns to the client and Overseas Installation and Service Manager.Must take into account personal security when travelling.
