Job Description
The Medical Transcriptionist for Radiology is responsible for accurately transcribing radiology reports dictated by radiologists and other healthcare professionals. This role involves ensuring all reports are completed in a timely manner to maintain turnaround times (TATs) and support the efficient operation of the radiology department. The ideal candidate will possess strong attention to detail, excellent typing skills, and a comprehensive understanding of medical terminology, particularly in radiology.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Transcription Duties:

    • Accurately transcribe and edit dictated radiology reports, including diagnostic imaging, procedures, and consultations.
    • Ensure reports are clear, grammatically correct, and free of typographical errors.
    • Verify patient information for accuracy and completeness in the reports.
  2. Quality Assurance:

    • Review and proofread transcribed reports for consistency, accuracy, and compliance with departmental standards.
    • Adhere to formatting and style guidelines as specified by the radiology department or healthcare facility.
  3. Turnaround Time (TAT) Management:

    • Prioritize and manage workload to meet or exceed established turnaround times (TATs) for report completion.
    • Communicate with radiologists and other healthcare providers to clarify dictations or obtain additional information when necessary.
    • Track and report on TAT performance, identifying areas for improvement.
  4. Documentation and Record Keeping:

    • Maintain accurate and organized records of transcribed reports.
    • Ensure confidentiality and security of patient information in compliance with HIPAA and other relevant regulations.
    • Assist in the development and maintenance of templates and standard operating procedures (SOPs) for transcription processes.
  5. Collaboration and Communication:

    • Work closely with radiologists, technologists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure efficient workflow and accurate report generation.
    • Provide feedback and suggestions for improving transcription processes and systems.
  6. Technology and Tools:

    • Utilize transcription software, electronic health records (EHR), and other relevant technology to complete tasks efficiently.
    • Stay current with industry advancements and updates to transcription tools and practices.




RequirementsHigh school diploma or equivalent; additional certification in medical transcription is preferred.
Proven experience as a medical transcriptionist, preferably in a radiology setting.
Proficiency in medical terminology, anatomy, and radiology-specific language.
Excellent typing speed and accuracy.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work.
Ability to manage time effectively and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines.
