• We are seeking a detail-oriented and innovative Vessel Operations Data Analyst to join our dynamic team. This role will focus on analysing and optimizing vessel performance through data-driven insights, automation, and the creation of advanced dashboards.
• The Data Analyst will be responsible for converting raw data into actionable insights by developing interactive dashboards and implementing automation solutions. This role requires a blend of technical expertise in Excel and data visualization tools, along with a deep understanding of data analysis methodologies. The ideal candidate will work closely with the Vessel Operations Team at the VOC and collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to drive data-driven decision-making and enhance operational efficiency through creation of streamlined, automated reporting processes.

 The role 

 Vessel Performance Analysis:

Data Collection & Analysis:

• Collect and integrate raw data from multiple sources, including FM, IMS, MIP and other relevant applications.
• Segment, analyse, and interpret key performance data related to vessel operations and performance metrics, such as speed, fuel consumption, engine efficiency, vessel route performance, and emissions data.
• Ensure data quality and integrity by cleaning, validating, and cross-referencing information from various platforms to identify discrepancies and ensure accurate reporting.
• Design and implement automated solutions for data capture, establishing robust and automated processes for continuous validation and maintenance of data integrity.
• Continuously monitor data streams and workflows to ensure the accuracy, consistency, and reliability of data used in performance analysis.

Performance Optimization:

• Identify opportunities for vessel performance improvements by analysing performance trends, inefficiencies, and anomalies and feed into the vessel operations team.
• Evaluate fuel consumption patterns, speed optimization, and engine performance to recommend actionable improvements for operational efficiency, fuel savings, and emissions reductions.
• Use historical and real-time data from FM, IMS, and MIP to build models that predict potential performance deviations and optimize vessel operations proactively.

 Reporting & Visualization:

• Develop and deliver regular performance reports, including key performance indicators (KPIs) that highlight trends, performance benchmarks, and areas for improvement.
• Provide in-depth analysis of operational data to identify patterns such as excess fuel consumption, engine performance degradation, or route inefficiencies.
• Present findings using interactive dashboards and data visualization tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau) to ensure clarity and actionable insights for operational teams.
• Ensure dashboards are user-friendly, easy to interpret, and actionable for stakeholders with varying levels of technical expertise.

Historical Performance Benchmarking:

• Leverage historical performance data to benchmark against current performance metrics, establishing clear performance baselines across the fleet.
• Use historical data to understand long-term trends in vessel efficiency, fuel consumption, and engine performance, and integrate this information with machine learning models for predictive analysis.
• Compare fleet performance against machine learning platform metrics, using the insights generated by these platforms to continuously refine and update performance benchmarks.
• Ensure that data-driven performance benchmarks are regularly reviewed and adjusted based on machine learning model outputs and real-world fleet performance.

Root Cause Analysis:

• Perform in-depth analysis to detect root causes of performance inefficiencies, such as fuel overconsumption, engine inefficiency, or performance degradation.
• Collaborate with technical and operations teams to diagnose underlying causes and recommend corrective actions, based on data-driven insights.

Excel Automation:

• Design and develop Excel-based solutions to automate repetitive tasks, reports, and data extraction processes.
• Implement advanced Excel functions, such as PivotTables, VLOOKUP, INDEX/MATCH, and complex formulas, to streamline analysis.
• Use VBA (Visual Basic for Applications) to create macros that automate data processing, reporting, and chart generation.
• Create and maintain dynamic reports and dashboards in Excel, including integration with other systems when necessary.

Reporting:

• Generate daily, weekly, and monthly reports for internal stakeholders, ensuring timely and accurate delivery.
• Automate report generation processes to minimize manual effort and ensure consistency.
• Develop ad-hoc reports as requested by management, focusing on providing valuable insights and recommendations.

Collaboration & Communication:

Work closely with business units to understand their reporting needs and provide relevant, timely data insights.

Present findings and recommendations to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Train end-users on dashboard functionalities and Excel automation processes.

Continuous Improvement:

Regularly review and optimize dashboard designs, reports, and automation processes to improve efficiency and effectiveness.

Stay up to date with emerging trends in data analysis, dashboard development, and Excel automation techniques.

Identify opportunities to introduce new tools, technologies, or practices to enhance the data analysis and reporting process

What you bring 

Experience & Education:

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Data Science, or related field.
• Experience: 2-4 years of experience in data analysis, business intelligence, or a related role with hands-on experience in Excel automation and dashboard development.
• Industry Knowledge: Prior experience working with/in a Marine Industry and vessel domain is an added advantage. Experience in relevant industries (e.g., finance, marketing, operations) is a plus, but not required.
