Job Description

We areseeking a Staff Mechanical Design Engineer.
Thisposition will be responsible for supporting senior engineers andproject leaders with a variety of engineering tasks from design anddevelopment to assembly and testing of complex electromechanicalsystems.
A solid working knowledge of CAD software (e.g.SolidWorks) is required as well as standard office software skills(e.g. Microsoft Office).
A basic understanding of shoptools is desired.
Successful candidates will possess aBS or MS in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field andwill have good technical problem solving and communicationskills.
We work on exciting technically challengingresearch & development programs where multidisciplinaryteams work closely to address difficult national securityneeds.
This position will allow applicants tocollaborate with subject matter experts and make meaningfulcontributions to project teams and their objectives.
Itwill give applicants exposure to all parts of the R&Dprocess from firstprinciple analysis through to prototyping andtesting of integrated systems.
Candidates will bementored by a senior engineer.

Tasking mayinclude:
Design analysis and engineering of advancedprototype systems
Fabrication assembly and laboratorytesting of systems at our Pawcatuck CT Facility
Travelopportunities to support field testing of prototypesystems

Required Attributes andSkills:
Experience with 3D CAD Software
Fundamental knowledge of materials strengths and staticsanalysis
Experience using mechanical engineeringprincipals to design mechanical elements
Ability toperform FEA on mechanical designs ensuring feasibility andidentifying areas of concern
Experience utilizingmechanical hardware and common mechanical system components (i.e.gears shafts fasteners etc.)
Ability to read and createmechanical fabrication drawings
Proficient at workingindependently as well as in an integrated team that spans multiplelocations.
Good communication and planning skills thatsupport schedule driven multitask management and the ability tocreate and present work status for discussion and review
Proficient with Microsoft Office suite

Desired Attributes and Skills:
Knowledge and/orexperience designing or working with subsea systems andcomponents
Knowledge of engineering calculation tools(Mathcad MATLAB etc.)
Basic understanding of geometricdimensioning and tolerancing practices
Experience with3D printing technologies and software
Experience withmicrocontrollers (i.e. Arduino Basic Stamp Raspberry Pi)
Knowledge of software programming languages (e.g. JAVA C# CPython)

Desired Experience:
Abachelors or masters degree in mechanical engineering or a closelyrelated field.
Applicants with a bachelors degree shouldhave at least 2 years of relevant professionalexperience.
Applicants with a masters degree can berecent graduates with limited professional experience.

An immediate fulltime position is open at the followinglocations:
Groton CT / Pawcatuck CT preferred
Other locations could be considered for strong candidates such asConcord MA or Arlington VA
