OverviewA PediatricHospitalist plays a crucial role in providing comprehensive medicalcare to pediatric patients within a hospital setting. They workclosely with other healthcare professionals to diagnose and treat avariety of illnesses and injuries in children ensuring that youngpatients receive highquality compassionatecare.

Keyresponsibilities
  • Provide directpatient care in the hospital setting including admissionsconsultations and discharges
  • Conduct thoroughexaminations and assessments of pediatric patients to determine adiagnosis and develop treatmentplans
  • Coordinate care with specialists primarycare physicians and other healthcare providers to ensure integratedand holistic treatment for patients
  • Manage themedical care of pediatric inpatients including ordering andinterpreting diagnostic tests prescribing medications andmonitoring progress
  • Oversee and participate inmedical procedures and interventions for pediatric patients asnecessary
  • Document patient care activitiesincluding writing admission and progress notes and maintainingaccurate medical records
  • Provide education andsupport to patients and their families regarding diagnosestreatment plans and preventive care
  • Participatein multidisciplinary rounds and collaborate with nursing stafftherapists and other allied healthcareprofessionals
  • Stay updated on the latestdevelopments in pediatric medicine through ongoing educationtraining and participation in professional developmentactivities
  • Contribute to quality improvementinitiatives and adhere to best practices in pediatric hospitalmedicine
  • Act as a resource for healthcare teammembers regarding pediatricspecific medical expertise andguidance
  • Adhere to hospital and departmentalpolicies and procedures including ethical guidelines and standardsof care
  • Participate in oncall rotations andprovide afterhours coverage asrequired
  • Collaborate with hospital leadershipand participate in committees task forces and other hospitalgovernance activities
Requiredqualifications
  • Doctor of Medicine(M.D.) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.) degree from anaccredited medical school
  • Completion of apediatric residency program and board certification inpediatrics
  • Licensure to practice medicine inthe state or region of employment with current DEAregistration
  • Proven experience in pediatrichospital medicine including managing inpatient care and conductingconsultations
  • Demonstrated clinical expertisein diagnosing and treating a wide range of pediatric conditionsfrom common illnesses to complex medicalissues
  • Excellent communication skills with theability to effectively convey medical information to patientsfamilies and colleagues
  • Strong teamwork andcollaboration capabilities with a commitment to interdisciplinarycare and shared decisionmaking
  • Ability to workin a fastpaced highpressure environment while maintaining a focuson patient safety and qualityoutcomes
  • Commitment to continuous learning andprofessional development including staying abreast of advances inpediatric medicine and hospitalistpractices
  • Understanding of and adherence toethical standards patient confidentiality and regulatoryrequirements in healthcare
  • Excellentorganizational and time management skills with the ability toprioritize tasks and manage competing demandseffectively
  • Capacity for empathy and compassionin working with pediatric patients and their families particularlyduring challenging medicalsituations
  • Willingness to engage in teachingmentoring and scholarly activities as part of academic hospitalistresponsibilities if applicable
  • Ability to adaptto evolving healthcare policies technologies and best practices andcontribute to strategic initiatives for pediatric hospitalmedicine
  • Current certification or eligibilityfor certification in pediatric advanced life support (PALS) andbasic life support(BLS)
