Job Title: Commerce Lecturer

Job Summary: The Commerce Lecturer is responsible for delivering high-quality instruction in commerce-related subjects, such as accounting, finance, marketing, economics, and business studies, at the undergraduate and/or graduate level. This role involves preparing and delivering lectures, creating and grading assessments, advising students, and contributing to the academic community through research, committee work, and other activities.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Teaching:

    • Develop and deliver engaging lectures and seminars in various commerce subjects.
    • Prepare course materials, including syllabi, assignments, and exams.
    • Utilize a variety of teaching methods and instructional technologies to enhance student learning.
    • Maintain regular office hours to provide academic support and advising to students.
  2. Curriculum Development:

    • Design and update course content to reflect current developments in the field of commerce.
    • Collaborate with colleagues to improve and standardize the curriculum across the department.
    • Integrate real-world business scenarios and case studies into the curriculum.
  3. Assessment and Evaluation:

    • Create, administer, and grade exams, quizzes, and other assessments to evaluate student performance.
    • Provide timely and constructive feedback to students on their academic progress.
    • Maintain accurate records of student grades and attendance.
  4. Research and Scholarly Activities:

    • Conduct original research in a specific area of commerce.
    • Publish research findings in reputable academic and professional journals.
    • Present research at academic conferences and seminars.
    • Seek and secure funding for research projects through grants and other sources.
  5. Student Advising and Mentoring:

    • Advise students on academic and career planning.
    • Mentor students in research projects and guide them in developing their analytical and professional skills.
    • Support student organizations and extracurricular activities related to commerce and business.
  6. Service to the Institution:

    • Participate in departmental meetings and contribute to curriculum and policy development.
    • Serve on academic and administrative committees.
    • Engage in community outreach and promote the commerce program through various initiatives.
  7. Professional Development:

    • Stay current with advancements in the field of commerce and education.
    • Attend professional development workshops, conferences, and training sessions.
    • Engage in continuous learning to enhance teaching and research skills.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Master’s degree in Commerce, Business Administration, Economics, or a closely related field; a Ph.D. is preferred.
  • Experience: Prior teaching experience at the college or university level is preferred. Experience in conducting and publishing research is also desirable.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in using business software applications and online teaching platforms. Familiarity with data analysis tools and statistical software is a plus.
  • Soft Skills: Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to explain complex concepts in a clear and understandable manner. Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
  • Certifications: None required, but additional certifications related to teaching or specific areas of commerce can be beneficial.

Working Conditions:

  • The role involves working in classroom, office, and potentially online environments.
  • May require standing for long periods while teaching.
  • Occasional evening or weekend hours may be needed for special events or research activities.
