Global Fraud and Credit Control Services is a first line of defence control function in Wealth & Personal Banking, with the core purpose of supporting the entire customer fraud & credit journeys, and creating sustainable outcomes for the Customer and the Bank. 

As the technology function for this, we oversee and deliver a range of new and innovative technologies to ensure our customers can continue to conduct their daily banking safely and securely. We deliver large scale projects across multiple geographies and time zones as part of a multi-year portfolio of work which is constantly evolving due to the dynamic nature of the external fraud & credit environment.

The Fraud and CCS Tech function are looking for an individual to become the Principal Engineer - Fraud. Principal Engineers (PE) are the second highest level of the IC Engineering Career Path.

The Principal Engineer for CCS and Fraud will provide the Technology and Engineering leadership to deploy best in class credit decisioning and fraud detection solutions protecting both customer and Bank outcomes. This involves develpoing or deploying leading edge cloud hosted technology solutions to manage large data flows, Machine learning decisioning systems, analytics and insights. The job holder is a strategist, shaping engineering business decisions and processes. PEs also provide leadership for technical disciplines, competencies and professions, and develop architectures, standards, and tools.”

Principal responsibilities

This role will carry out some or all of the following activities:

Leading and delivering to the technical & engineering outcomes globally underpinning the delivery of highly complex, business critical, decisioning focused, data driven services for the Fraud & Credit functions. Responsible for all technical decisions – principles, design, implementation – for the Fraud & Credit solutions globally across the diverse technology landscape and varied tech stacks. This role is also accountable of the overall engineering capability, including the oversight of multiple dev-ops engineering pods outcomes & quality, liaising with wider stakeholders including wider technology & control functions.  Provide engineering expertise and representation across the wider Retail Banking & Strategy technology organisation with particular focus on the Fraud & Credit function. Provide technical advice to senior management when making major decisions. The job holder is also expected to solve complex problems that have a business critical impact, and to form task forces that are assigned to address one-off issues.  Shape and enable the implementation of the Engineering strategy in line with the longer term business & technology roadmap. Create commercially valuable products or services through innovative use of technology. Provide Technology input to the running of experiments and Proof of Concepts (PoC) within the group Act as a Subject Matter Expert for the area, providing knowledge sharing sessions and thought leadership Contribute to the wider technology community through conference presentations, white papers, blog posts. Mentor technology talent and take an active role in the development of the engineering teams underpinning the function.

In summary, the purpose of the PE role is to both maximize technical talent and to increase the business value obtained from their efforts.

What you will need to succeed in the role/ Knowledge and Experience / Qualifications

Deepexperience in developing and implementing software solutions on Cloud preferably on GCP. Experience dealing event driven design, Machine Learning deployment pipelines with scalability and resilience. Extensive experience in building and integrating large scale & be-spoke data repositories/lakes with real-time streaming and aggregation. Alongwith, orchestration, transformation and multi-layer consumption for Insights, Analytics embedding the requisite data controls & quality mechanisms. In-depth experience on GCP / equivalent application deployments including aspects of Containerisation, Infra as code, Virtualisation etc. Experience in working Agile environment with a strong focus on developing engineering solutions granularly & iteratively. Proven ability to improve developer productivity – through automation, advanced technical skills and quality through the lifecycle. Exposure and success working within a global matrix organization model as well as with global engineering teams spread across multiple geographies. Gravitas and ability to interact with and advise senior executives spanning different Global Businesses & Geographies. Ability to understand business issues and devise solutions that deliver results, constructing fresh approaches where appropriate and making connections to other issues Able to work within an ambiguous environment, prioritize and reconcile competing demands and resolve complex issues

Technical Skill:

Domain : Deep technical hands-on expertise centered around Cloud Technologies and Data & Analytics Engineering. Expertise in design and development of a signficant large-scale Cloud Hosted, Decisioning Systems, which are data intensive and centered around high speed execution pipelines delivering Analytics,Workflows, Machine Learning &Insights. Hands-on experience on technical tools & solutions that enable Data Ingestion, Transformation and Cloud automation. Researches new technologies / capabilities / solutions and is the driving force to adopt them and keeps close to emerging Fraud and Credit decisioning technology and business trends. Someone who can think few steps forward of technology and guide the team or function to a new or refined direction in line with the evolution of the Fraud & Credit ecosystem. Someone who whilst being a specialist in specific domains ( Cloud & Data); can apply their thinking to diverse technical problems & situations. Demonstrates mastery of their technical discipline and enables the grooming of a High Performance Engineering organisation. Experienced in working with product vendors in partnering, challenging and developing the product roadmap, focused on the constituent tech-stack and tooling choices best suited for the Bank’s needs.
