Facade Structural Engineer

What's the opportunity?  

We are looking for a talented experienced Facade Structural Engineer to join our vibrant and friendly facade engineering team in Mumbai. 

This role will see you working as part of a talented specialist team focussing on a portfolio of innovative, pinnacle projects in India. This is a client-facing role, and we will expect you to lead projects for the facade discipline. 

You'll be working alongside industry-renowned experts in the field and drawing upon the skills and knowledge of other related disciplines such as fire engineering, sustainability, MEP, and asset management.

Ideally you will be an established Façade Structural Engineer who can confidently, conduct analysis of façade systems , infill panels , bracketing system & connection details from a secure technical base. Additionally, this role shall also require zeal and eagerness to improve, learn & take the next step to lead on complex projects. 

Naturally this role will require you to be able to understand and react to the changing design of the overall building and be able to communicate your ideas clearly in speech and good quality hand sketches, or other means as necessary. The ability to develop ideas convincingly “on the page” in a meeting will be a significant advantage. 

At the core of this role is the responsibility to: 

Play the role of Facades Job leader for projects led by the India team.  Work as part of a single or multi-disciplinary team attending and chairing meetings with architects, contractors, etc. in an advisory capacity. Developing jobs technically from initial client ideas. Good presentation and communication skills. Provide clear input on design calculations for bids, BH project specific work for India office & work share. Support senior staff in providing strong design leadership on Façade Issues to the rest of the Client’s design team. Maintain good client relations throughout the job and work with a variety of stakeholders.  Mentor more junior team members, potentially leading to line management.

In return, we would expect you to be able to demonstrate: 

Considerable experience of Design which should ideally include the majority of the following:

- Awareness of different type of façade systems & materials. You should be able to demonstrate knowledge of at least

three materials & system.

- Awareness of basic weather Performance Issues.

- Awareness of standards & acceptable criteria for façade elements.

- Fundamental Building Physics: Ventilation, Solar gain control, Thermal Insulation, Glare control etc.

- Secondary Steel Structural Design.

- Glass structural design.

- Experience of the practical aspects of handling and fabrication processes shall be an added advantage.

Good awareness of the problems and constraints of the other major design disciplines such as Architectural, Structures, Services, Fire Engineering, Acoustics, and Computer modelling etc.  Achieved or working towards Chartered Engineer, Professional Engineer or equivalent registration of other appropriate body  Bachelors / master’s degree in Structural Engineering, Civil Engineering / Mechanical Engineering, Other formal qualifications such as the MSc in Façade Engineering from Bath University or PhD level research would naturally be of great interest.  Minimum + years of experience as façade structural engineer in either façade design consultancy / façade contractor firm. Should have hands on experience in working of analysis software’s like Staad Pro, Mepla etc. Experience of working in Revit / Rhino / Grasshopper would be an added advantage.
