Asset Management Bangalore (AM BLR) is the offshore center for HSBC’s Asset Management business. It came into existence in the year 2010 in Bangalore, with the main objective to act as a center of excellence to support the Asset management entities globally. This is a facilitated entity within the GSC’s and aligns to AMG Global Office (AMGB) in London, UK. As of 31 Mar 2024, AMG BLR has circa 360+ staff undertaking activities for more than 20 functions supporting Asset Management entities globally. Functions are not limited to operations but cater to all aspects of the business like Sales/ Client business, Product, Marketing, Operations, CCO, Investments, Risk and Data Management/analytics. The team has grown phenomenally in the last three years. The Asset management business in HSBC is on a growth trajectory with aggressive plans to scale up the assets under management. The role sits within the CCO function of HSBC Asset Management and will provide an opportunity to the role holder to interact/work with senior stakeholders in UK, regionally, and where required across key AM markets as well.

The Opportunity:

We are seeking an exceptionally intelligent, resourceful and self-motivated individual to be part of the Asset Management (AM) Chief Control Office (CCO) team. The role will be an integral part of the team, functionally reporting into the onshore global team based in London, UK. In conjunction with the onshore team, the role holder will drive effective governance and management of Non-Financial Risks (NFRs) for Asset Management globally from a first line perspective. The role is a part of the CCO team within Asset Management, Bangalore.

What you’ll do:

Overseeing and guiding the global AM locations on key NFR deliverables such as risk and control assessments, issue and action management, incidents, and continuous monitoring. This includes tailoring Group guidance to AM requirements, identifying and sharing best practices across locations/risk types etc and providing SME support to local implementation. Leading on global read across activities in AM for material events and issues to determine if similar gaps exist within other AM offices. This includes identifying when read across activities are required, designing the read across activity to be undertaken and analysing/presenting the results. Supporting the wider AM business in identifying, raising and tracking issues and associated remedial actions. Providing inputs into global governance packs from an NFR perspective, including identification of topics to be included and drafting and reviewing papers. Undertaking analysis of relevant data points ( internal events, issues) to identify themes and presenting the results of the analysis to key stakeholders. Supporting the wider global CCO team in driving global consistency across AM and ensuring appropriate governance of NFR related activities. Innovate and drive automation initiatives to bring in efficiency and scale to CCO deliveries. This includes identifying and implementing automation use cases within AM CCO as appropriate. What you will need to succeed in the role:

Knowledge

Expert understanding of non financial risk and how it is managed Knowledge of large scale business processes (within banking or other industries) and the risks inherent in these processes

Capabilities

A track record of strong relationship management, collaboration and influencing skills with experience of positive, challenging interactions with senior management. Excellent written and verbal communication skills: ability to present complex issues simply and concisely Intellectually curious and inquisitive Able to analyse and interpret complex and varied information to generate insight – and then use this insight to develop concise and actionable conclusions and recommendations. Able to develop creative solutions to difficult problems Able to take complete ownership of issues, work independently with confidence and deliver to deadlines in line with expectations is critically important. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail Able to build productive working relationships with colleagues from different cultures and backgrounds and operate effectively within a globally dispersed team operating in different time zones. Able to drive and successfully deliver multiple, wide-ranging priorities, often under stringent time pressures in a dynamic environment

What additional skills will be good to have?

Knowledge

Detailed understanding of AM and the regulatory environment in which it operates. Knowledge of AM products and services Knowledge of best practice in risk management Educated to degree level (or equivalent)

Experience

Operating effectively in a complex, global organization. A minimum of 3 to 5 years of relevant experience Strong experience of managing operational risk Experience of designing and implementing process controls

Capabilities

Process design and/or process reengineering skills Expertise in risk and control reporting – especially in defining and measuring leading risk indicators
