This apprenticeship is designed to provide hands-on experience in SQL development, database management, and data analysis, while learning from a team of experienced developers. The ideal candidate will have a passion for working with data and a desire to build a career in database development.

Job Description: As an SQL Developer Apprentice, you will work closely with experienced developers and database administrators to design, develop, and optimize SQL queries and databases. This apprenticeship offers the opportunity to gain practical, on-the-job experience with relational databases, database performance tuning, and SQL development best practices. You will receive mentorship while contributing to meaningful projects that have a direct impact on the business’s data systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the development, modification, and optimization of SQL queries and database structures.
  • Help design and implement database schemas, tables, and relationships based on project requirements.
  • Write efficient and scalable SQL queries to retrieve, manipulate, and analyse data.
  • Perform database performance tuning, optimising SQL queries, and ensuring fast data retrieval.
  • Work with senior developers to troubleshoot and resolve SQL-related issues and database performance problems.
  • Assist in data migration, data transformation, and ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand business needs and translate them into database solutions.
  • Assist in database testing, validation, and reporting to ensure accuracy and data integrity.
  • Help maintain database security, backup, and recovery processes.
  • Continuously learn new SQL techniques, database management tools, and technologies to stay current in the field.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with database management tools like SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS), MySQL Workbench, or pgAdmin.
  • Exposure to data modelling, normalisation, and relationships.
  • Basic knowledge of performance tuning and query optimization.
  • Familiarity with scripting languages (Python, Bash, or PowerShell) for automating tasks is a plus.
  • Exposure to data warehousing, ETL processes, or cloud-based databases (AWS, Google Cloud, Azure) is a bonus.
  • Experience with version control tools like Git is a plus.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to document technical work clearly.
  • Eagerness to learn and grow as a developer, with a focus on SQL and database technologies.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.

Requirements
Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Economics, or related field (or equivalent academic experience). Strong analytical skills with a keen interest in data-driven decision-making. Basic understanding of data analysis techniques and statistical concepts. Familiarity with data analytics tools such as Excel, SQL, Tableau, Power BI, or Python (preferred but not required). Strong attention to detail and the ability to work with large datasets. Ability to communicate technical information clearly and effectively to non-technical stakeholders. Eagerness to learn, grow, and develop within the field of data analytics. Strong organizational skills, ability to manage multiple tasks, and meet deadlines.
