Position Title

Lead Scientist - Synthesis

Purpose of the Position (Job Summary)

Looking for a Lead Scientist with capabilities in synthetic organic/inorganic chemistry to
conduct and lead basic & applied research including organic and inorganic materials synthesis
and applications process development, material testing, process development & optimization,
and performance evaluation. The Lead Scientist will be responsible for new material
composition/formulation development, synthesis, scale-up, material characterization, and
product performance evaluation.

Key Individual Accountabilities

To create an innovative product pipeline, build new products/ product variants through
idea generation in the field of specialty chemicals & performance materials chemistry.
• Evaluate and implement methods for synthesizing organic compounds. The individual in
this position is to demonstrate the understanding of the basic principles of performance
chemicals & materials chemistry & its applications
• Must have been involved and experienced with some of the key chemical synthesis
techniques such as chlorination, bromination, oxidation, acetylation, Friedel-Crafts
Reactions, halogenations, hydrolysis, condensation, nitration, high temperature & chiral
chemistry reactions
• Must have experience in handling laboratory equipment such as spectroscopic
instruments, UV visible, FTIR spectrometers, particle size analyser, Thermogravimetric
analyser, Differential Scanning calorimetry equipment, HPLC, GC etc
• Evaluate and implement methods for chemical analysis and quantification of organic
materials in solid and liquid forms
• Capability to record and interpret experimental results and should be able to analyze data
from characterized samples and must be able to communicate experimental findings from
chemical analyses in a format accessible to non-technical team members
• Specify, operate and maintain analytical equipment and should be capable of writing work
instructions for procedures developed
• Analysis of complex data sets and creation of design hypotheses
• Troubleshoot and optimize reaction sequences to generate informative compounds in
parallel
• Serve as part of cross-functional project teams, which impact product specifications,
change controls, and other key contributors to consumer production such as sales &
marketing, purchase & procurement, intellectual property etc.

• Update the business/technology team on scientific literature, trends and consumer needs
and help generate ideas of future.
• Must have strong customer interfacing abilities thereby independently managing customer
approvals
• Must have practical experience with innovation project management thereby
demonstrating ability to deliver projects within agreed time and budget
• In a project leadership capacity, the candidate is expected to plan, develop, coordinate,
and execute a number of significant projects
• Must be able to deliver effective presentations, reports, and publications to stake holders
• Identify and form collaborative relationships with academic, national laboratory, industry,
government agencies, and in-house experts to leverage internal capability and maximize
impact
• Well versed in Six Sigma methodology –specifically DoE's and Gage R&R

Technical & Behavioral Skills & Knowledge

Education: Ph.D. with 7-10 years of relevant industrial experience
 Subject Specialty: Organic Chemistry. Preferably from specialty performance chemicals /
advanced materials industry
