Job Title: Dialysis Technician Trainee
Department: Nephrology / Clinical Services
Reporting to: Senior Dialysis Technician / Nephrologist
Location: Dialysis Centre
Job Summary
The Dialysis Technician Trainee will assist in providing hemodialysis treatment to patients under the supervision of senior medical and technical staff. The trainee will learn to operate dialysis equipment, monitor patient responses, follow infection control protocols, and support the dialysis team in daily operations.
Key Responsibilities
Training & Technical Support
- Observe and assist senior dialysis technicians during treatment setup and procedures.
- Learn the operation, priming, and disinfection of dialysis machines.
- Assist in preparing dialysis stations with necessary materials and equipment.
- Support in monitoring machine parameters under supervision.
- Gain hands-on training in troubleshooting basic machine alarms and issues.
Patient Assistance
- Help prepare patients for dialysis sessions (measuring weight, checking vitals, etc.).
- Provide basic comfort and assistance to patients before, during, and after treatment.
- Report any patient discomfort or abnormalities to the supervising technician/nurse.
Infection Control & Maintenance
- Learn and apply standard infection prevention practices.
- Assist in cleaning, sterilizing, and maintaining equipment and work areas.
- Dispose of medical waste safely as per hospital protocol.
Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain trainee logs and checklists as per training module.
- Assist in recording patient data and equipment details under supervision.
- Participate in evaluations and assessments as part of training progress.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Educational Qualification:
- Diploma in Dialysis Technology / Certificate in Dialysis Technician course (or currently pursuing).
- Experience:
- Fresh candidates or recent graduates may apply.
- Skills & Competencies:
- Eagerness to learn and develop technical expertise.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Basic understanding of medical safety and hygiene.
- Ability to follow instructions and work in a team environment.
Training Period:
- Typically 6 months to 1 year (based on institutional policy and trainee performance).
Work Environment
- Clinical setting with exposure to patients undergoing dialysis treatment.
- Requires adherence to safety standards and use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Shift-based duties under supervision.
