Role & responsibilities

Pre-procedure

  • Patient Assessment: Evaluate the patient's health, medical history, and current condition.
  • Documentation: Review medical records, allergies, and current medications, and ensure surgical consents are signed.
  • Preparation: Prepare the patient physically and mentally for the procedure, which may include an ECG, obtaining vital signs, and administering pre-procedure medications.
  • Lab Setup: Sterilize equipment, confirm all necessary supplies are available, and assist with sterile field preparation.

During procedure

  • Patient Monitoring: Closely monitor the patient's vital signs, EKG, and hemodynamic parameters, and administer medications as needed.
  • Physician Support: Assist cardiologists and other specialists by handing them necessary equipment, supplies, and medications.
  • Crisis Management: Be prepared to manage high-stress emergency situations and respond to any complications.

Post-procedure

  • Recovery Care: Monitor the patient's recovery, check for complications like bleeding, and remove sheaths or apply dressings to access sites.
  • Patient Education: Educate patients and their families about the procedure and post-procedure care instructions.
  • Discharge Planning: Coordinate with other healthcare professionals to facilitate patient discharge and ensure they receive necessary post-care instructions.
  • Lab Clean-up: Clean the lab and properly dispose of used equipment and materials.
