Key responsibilities
- Cost management: Prepare detailed cost estimates, budgets, and cost forecasts for projects.
- Contract administration: Develop and manage contracts, including tender packages and BOQ
- Financial tracking: Monitor project costs, process invoices, and ensure projects stay within budget.
- Negotiation: Negotiate with clients, contractors, and suppliers to secure favorable prices.
- Risk management: Identify commercial risks, perform risk analysis, and advise on claims and disputes.
- Procurement: Oversee material sourcing and resource planning.
- Compliance: Ensure projects comply with legal, quality, and safety standards.
- Reporting: Provide regular financial reports and progress updates to management.
- Site visits: Conduct site visits to monitor progress, gather information, and assess work completed.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Successful QS Engineers typically possess a combination of technical and soft skills:
- Education: A bachelor's degree in Quantity Surveying, Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field is typically required.
- Technical Skills: Strong analytical and numerical skills, proficiency in cost estimation and project management software (e.g., MS Excel, AutoCAD, Primavera, CostX ), and knowledge of construction methods and materials.
- Soft Skills: Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills are crucial for liaising with diverse stakeholders, from clients and architects to site managers.
