Senior Test Engineer – Enterprise Data Platform

The Enterprise Data team builds and governs "trusted" data products and controls that underpin M&G's business goals (reporting, reconciliations, MI, and analytics).

The ideal candidate will be part of an Agile Data Delivery Squad and will own the planning, execution and assurance of testing (primarily data/ETL, platform integrations and MI/reporting) across the initiatives assigned to the squad—covering ST, SIT and UAT Support, reconciliations & defect management—so that releases meet business outcomes, control expectations and our internal test standards. They will use Test Automation as primary way of testing with the ability to perform manual testing as needed.

Primary Key Responsibilities

• Plan & govern test phases (ST/SIT/UAT) using our internal approach and artifacts (test plan, traceability matrix, test progress dashboards, defect triage, test completion report). Manage entry/exit criteria, evidence, and sign‑off.
• Design test scenarios & scripts from requirements, mapping rules and process walk‑throughs; maintain traceability from requirement to test to result.
• Execute data/ETL testing: write SQL to validate transformations, reconciliations and data quality across finance data stores and interfaces.
• Champion Test Automation: Follow "automated by default" test approach and create automation test scripts & frameworks.
• Ensure Requirements Completeness: Working with Business/ Analysts to ensure testability of Requirements and Acceptance Criteria
• Test Data Planning: Defining test data requirements to ensure full coverage back to requirements
• Validate reconciliations and controls end‑to‑end (e.g., bank/ledger, ledger validation, including defect isolation, root‑cause input, and re‑test.
• Support UAT readiness & execution with business SMEs: prepare data, coordinate user walkthroughs, manage daily progress & defect triage (JIRA/Zephyr).
• Report clearly: produce concise MI (coverage, pass/fail, defect density/leakage, risk hotspots) ST and SIT Test Completion Reports and recommend go/no‑go with rationale.
• Continuously improve: propose optimizations (test data strategy, automation candidates, regression packs, dashboards) and help standardise reusable test assets across Finance Data change.

Knowledge & Skills (Must Have) :

• Strong technical background with hands on experience writing automated testing frameworks to support data testing.
• Expertise in Industry standard Testing/ Test Management & Test Automation tools
• Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) and credibility in front of stakeholders
• Self-motivated, quick learner who is able to acquire a strong technical understanding of a complex system area
• Able to set out an on-going test strategy for a system area taking into account technology, resource constraints and user engagement
• Able to define and manage the testing scope per iteration for a continuous pipeline of development
• Maintaining independence whilst handling diverse and conflicting pressures
• Detailed knowledge on testing best practices, strategies, and processes.
• Working knowledge of financial services industry

Experience:

• 4-6 years of experience with 3+ years as a Automation Engineer
• Familiarity with JIRA/ Zephyr
• Experience with Test Automation Frameworks & Tools is must
• Experience with  Programming Languages Python (PySpark),SQL, Scala is must
• Experience with Azure Cloud & Databricks Platform Knowledge is must
• Experience with Agile development (Scrum/Kanban) is must
• Experience with task tracking systems like Jira is must
• Should have worked on Data delivery projects

Educational Qualification:

• Bachelor's or master's degree in IT
• Azure Data platform certifications is a plus
