Project description

This role requires a PostgreSQL Database Expert to design, optimize, and manage mission-critical database systems. You will be responsible for ensuring high availability, scalability, and performance of Postgres databases while supporting application teams with schema design, query optimization, and advanced troubleshooting.

- Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and maintain PostgreSQL databases for high-volume, business-critical applications.
- Optimize database performance through indexing, query tuning, and partitioning strategies.
- Ensure database security, backup, recovery, and disaster recovery readiness.
- Collaborate with developers to design efficient data models and support application performance.
- Monitor database health and proactively resolve performance bottlenecks.
- Execute upgrades, patches, and migrations with minimal downtime.
- Automate administrative tasks using scripts or tools to improve efficiency.
- Provide expertise in capacity planning and database architecture decisions.
- Skills

Must have
- 8+ years of experience in database administration with at least 5+ years in PostgreSQL.
- Expert-level knowledge of PostgreSQL internals, performance tuning, and replication.
- Strong proficiency in SQL, query optimization, and database schema design.
- Hands-on experience with backup/recovery, high availability (HA), and disaster recovery (DR) solutions.
- Proficiency in scripting (e.g., Python, Bash, or Shell) for database automation.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.

Nice to have
- Exposure to cloud-based Postgres solutions (AWS RDS/Aurora, GCP Cloud SQL, or Azure Database for PostgreSQL).
- Knowledge of data warehousing and analytical workloads.
- Familiarity with DevOps tools (Ansible, Jenkins, Terraform) for database automation.
- Experience with monitoring tools like Prometheus, Grafana, or pgAdmin.
