Mission

We are seeking an experienced and meticulous Robotics Application Engineer to take complete ownership of the quality of our robotic systems' output. You will be the go-to expert for ensuring our robots perform flawless sanding and spraying applications. This role is critical in refining our technology, mitigating defects, and ensuring our customers receive the highest quality results through systematic experimentation and data-driven improvements.

What You'll Do
  • Own Application Quality: Be the ultimate owner of the quality and final finish for robotic sanding and spraying applications. You will define what "good" looks like and ensure the robots achieve it consistently.
  • Process Parameter Optimization: Design, conduct, and analyze experiments (Design of Experiments - DoE) to determine the optimal parameters for various surfaces and conditions. This includes variables like robot speed, tool pressure, spray flow rate, standoff distance, and path planning.
  • Defect Analysis & Mitigation: Become an expert in identifying, categorizing, and resolving application defects (e.g., orange peel, drips, inconsistent material removal). You will develop and document robust mitigation techniques.
  • Data-Driven Improvement: Lead the data collection process using high-speed robotic imaging systems to capture application quality in real-time. You will be responsible for annotating this data to create high-quality datasets.
  • Algorithm & Model Development: Collaborate closely with our Machine Learning team to use your annotated datasets to build and refine custom models. Your insights will directly improve the robot's autonomous defect detection and correction algorithms.
  • Deployment Excellence: Work hand-in-hand with field deployment engineers to transfer your knowledge and ensure that application quality standards are successfully implemented and maintained at customer sites.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Act as the voice of application quality within the company. You will collaborate with mechanical, electrical, and software engineering teams to influence robot design and development, ensuring our hardware and software are optimized for a perfect finish.
What You'll Need
  • Proven experience in developing and tuning parameters for robotic sanding and/or spraying applications. This is a mandatory requirement.
  • Demonstrable experience in designing and executing experiments (DoE) to solve complex process challenges.
  • A deep understanding of common defects in surface finishing and the scientific principles behind correcting them.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a hands-on, methodical approach.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to coordinate effectively with interdisciplinary teams (e.g., software, hardware, deployment).
  • Familiarity with cobots robots (e.g. Universal Robots) and their programming.
  • Experience with machine vision systems or other sensor-based data collection is a strong plus.
  • A basic understanding of data annotation and the lifecycle of machine learning models is highly desirable.
  • Bachelor's degree in Robotics, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related technical field.
