Primary Job Responsibilities:
Capturing Stray or Dangerous Animals:
Catching and removing stray, sick, injured, or aggressive dogs from public spaces.
- Using humane traps, nets, or other equipment for safe capture.
Responding to emergency calls about dog bites or attacks.
Transporting Animals:
Safely transporting captured dogs to animal shelters, veterinary clinics, or quarantine facilities.
Ensuring proper handling to prevent injury to the animal or themselves.
Enforcing Animal Control Laws:
Issuing warnings or citations to individuals violating pet-related laws (e.g., leash laws, licensing).
Investigating complaints of animal cruelty or neglect.
Public Education:
Informing the community about responsible pet ownership, vaccination, and spay/neuter programs.
Helping people understand local animal laws and how to prevent dog-related incidents.
Record Keeping and Reporting:
Maintaining detailed records of captured animals, incident reports, and enforcement actions.
Preparing reports for supervisors, law enforcement, or courts if necessary.
Animal Care:
Providing basic care for animals in custody (feeding, cleaning, first aid if needed).
Working with veterinarians to treat injured or sick animals.
Assisting in Adoptions or Rehoming Efforts:
Helping in placing unclaimed or stray dogs into adoption programs, when applicable.
Skills & Qualifications Needed:
- Knowledge of animal behavior and handling techniques.
- Familiarity with local animal laws and regulations.
- Physical fitness (job may require chasing or lifting animals).
- Compassion for animals and strong communication skills.
- Often requires a high school diploma; training in animal control or law enforcement is a plus.
